the voltage is still a dilemer, but onwards and upwards, I'm now thinking PAINT....

I had thought about painting her metallic blue like my wifes original Chaly, BUT she has black plastic mudguards, and black plastic rear shock covers, so options are;

1/ Change the mudguards for white ones
2/ Spray the mudguards (not keen)
3/ Spray the plastic rear shock covers white (should be ok if I use flexible primer, and rub down well)
4/ go with another colour that matches the black parts ?????

Anyone got any suggestions on colours ?

Hmm distince lack of replies, oh well..

Meanwhile ordered some paint (Metallic Blue) that matches the original chaly blue (Think it was Hawaiian blue or similar), managed to find original paint flake on a second hand part, so got it matched.

Rubber down the plastic rear shock covers with 200 paper and water, then sprayed them with flexible primer, rubbed them down again, and then primed them with normal grey primer.

Also had a result on the headlamp (mine originally had a square one, that has long since been lost many owners ago), OORacing came up trumps again with an adaptor that should be almost correct, and nothing that a bit of bashing wont put right. I also got a new rear swinging arm from them as it was hardly woth messing with changing the bushes.

On the electric front, it seems Honda did do a 6V cdi version, so lucky me, thats what mine has.

Yes, Honda did a 6v CDI version, on the Singa bike in 1998 if I remember correctly. (could be 1996 as well)
But It would be a big suprise to me if you have indeed the 6v cdi, because they are quite rare.
Is it still the original engine? My bet is that it has been transformed to a 12v wire loom.
It's easy to retain the original wire loom and have 12v running trough it.
Could you post a picture from the ignition?
Have you got 6v or 12v bulbs fitted?

Also, in my opinion, this defenitely is a 12v bike from origin.
At least, the complete front of the bike is.
So maybe they used a '70s frame to rebuild an '80s bike?
With the 12v loom...

Oh how life would have been easy if it had bulbs, but alas, NO. No bulbs and NO lights...not even a blooming horn, so nothing to give me a clue, other than the only wireing diagram I found for the CF70 (and I have about 6), where the colours match my loom perfectly, and includes a cdi but believe it or not doesnt show the damn battery voltage.

I did a search on the net for the Cdi unit (its 5 pins in a green socket) but didnt find anything that points to the voltage.
I was assured the engine is orignal, and I cant check this as I'm still waiting for the V5.

I got the Headlamd bracket from OORacing today, BUT it doesnt fit, not only do the holes not lign up with the top or bottom yoke, but the gap between the top and bottom yoke is about 6cms too long. However all is not lost, I played around with it, and worked out if I welded it at the top (under the front of the top yoke) whilst I clamped the bottom of the bracket to the front forks, it gave me the right angle. So thats what I did, I took the forks, yoke and bracket to a mate of mine and we welded the damn thing on (picture tomorrow), now when I remove the top yoke from the forks, the bracket comes away with the yoke, perfect. Once its rubbed down, sprayed and re-assembled I think to the untrained eye it will look normal. At least now I can look for a headlamp and indicators, so another job almost done. Just got to find someone whos breaking a chaly, as I realy dont want Taiwanese parts, and OO, Cmsl and Monkeybikes dont seem to stock several of the parts I need, ie Choke cable (the chaly one comes throught the top yoke with a knob marked "Choke"), and the metal Chaly badge emblems (and other parts).

Nipped out before it got too dark...

This is the OOracing braket

And here it is welded on

Side view

Tank now rubbed down and primed

At this point it started to rain so I had to stuff the frame back in the garage, so not the best of shots

And finally the Lump

That's indeed the original engine.
With the rarer clutch cover where the oil stick is on top instead of sideways.

Nice to hear you'll look for a donor bike so you can get the bike sorted out Japanese style.
Nice work so far, keep up! (if only the weather would cooperate a bit more)

Ok finaly got a responce from the seller, the engine was changed, still a 70, but from a newer model along with the loom, now it makes sence, hes not sure 6v or 12v, but I think everything is point towards 12v, everyone agree ?

Yes I agree.
Do you have the engine number? Could be a cub engine, C70...
