Re: New winter projects.
Hello peep's
Yes it's me again the Shorrocks show!!!!!!!! :? :? I seem to have taken over again, but ohh well. The latest info I have on the ongoing winter project.........
I've made a really nice bracket for my oil cooler rad, although I should have really gone a bit thicker on the steel, and I think I still might have too pending trials. Piped and plumbed in the aforementioned, and also piped up the fuel line supplies. I've decided to go with the direct route and "Y" piece connect the reserve and normal feeds together and feed into one main supply to the carb. I think this will give me better flow rate with the bigger carb sucking on it, again excuse the pun but I will need to "suck it and see"
I had some spare "Honda dog collar badges" so I thought i'd put them on to see what they looked like, and I must say, I quite like them. (Although don't tell anybody it's not a real one :o )
My next big challenge is to tidy up the rear end, as this looks a bit sloppy. I've fabricated a few different designs for brackets and lighting arrangements, and I also hope that Tufty can sort out the light bracket for me so that I can have a fettle with that option as well. I might ask you all what you think would be best suited W.I.P

Finally got through the post yesterday my 12mm x 300mm stainless axle bolt for the rear wheel. It had to be this long as I've put some lifting cups on each side of the wheel so as to enable me to lift the rear end on a pit stand. (got to make the pit stand next)!
My next job is to spray the brake calipers in red, so I'll need to strip these down and prep them................I'll let you know how it went :)

Just a small piece of advice...
It's safer to mount the oil cooler under the engine head.
If it's mounted above it (the higher the worse) it will drain each time after shutting off the engine.
It takes a couple of seconds for the hoses and radiator to fill up and the oil to reach the valves.

It looks like a solid bike to ride!

Hi Waynus,

Now I come to think of it, it makes perfect sense to have the rad mounted lower as you have suggested. The only problem I can fore see is, that the rear of the front mudguard might come into contact with it on hard braking, and in this position it would be more likely to foul up with road dirt and debris. I have no desire in thrashing the nuts of the little thing on start up so maybe, there lies the compromise? (Yet another work in progress...............THANKS WAYNUS ;)

Whilst your there Waynus, I've got too much "Dive" in my front forks, as a general rule how much oil should I put in them? (Sorry, their the 45mm upside down type)

Simon,
yes, a gentle start up will help preventing damage.
Also, I see the hoses are as short as possible, which is a good thing.
However, I strongly suggest to turn the rad upside down. That way, it stays full after shutting down the engine.

Abot the quantity of oil, i'm afraid I don't know.
I suggest however to start by removing the stock oil and change it for a high quality, thicker oil.
I'd start with the current quantity and increase by trial & error.

Meassure up the lowest point of the forks as they are now, and compare after each adjustment.
That should give you a good starting point.

Thanks Waynus,

I will be looking at changing the position of the rad, due to the fact that if I blow up this engine, I wont be getting another one :?
As for the front forks, I will fill them up with my syringe and go from there.

As a matter of interest, you say you are the "Proud owner of BLACKIE the green seated Daxhound", have we seen any pictures of this said creation? :D

I sold them both some time ago :(
She has had at least 15 different engines in her life... I just loved building them!

It looks from the photos that you are firmly in the "Moding" camp :D

I thought I'd give you mine Si :D

The D is in the wrong place.
There's only 1 A
There is no Y or T
Where is the H ?

:P

Liking the build, keep the pictures coming :D
