Re: Seat Restoration
Hi Dave,

My seat on my Blue ST is fractured in exactly the same place as yours.
I wanted to get it repaired as finding a 6v seat base is not as easy as you'd think, I also wanted to use as much of the original bike as possible.

My Lady has a 12v seat that's been modified to fit, every time I look at it I know it's wrong if that makes sense.
It does not sit right, almost too high.

So if your serious about helping with the seat then so am I.

Let me know and I'll send you a few pictures, then we can take it from there.
I will obviously pay you to do this, beer tokens or what ever we arrange assuming I can afford it :D

Cheers,

Blue

Hi Blue,
Yes I can repair the base as I did mine if required, post some pictures and I'll have a look and see.

Cheers,
Dave

Ps. My phone No - ***** if you want to discuss in person

Can see a little cottage industry developing here, mines shot toi Dave if you are seriously offering to repair seats. Payment of course, like Blue I would like to keep as much of the bike original as I can, cheers Paul.

Yes, that's always the best option and of course the quality of the replacement parts is sometimes dubious (even some Honda stuff!) :o
Although I'm retired now I've really never been busier, having tackled and completed my ST, I'm now in the middle of a full nut & bolt restoration on my 4 wheeled ST equivalent :D , another really fun bit of kit, a 1970 Lotus Elan DHC 8-)
Its a daunting task compared to the ST, at the moment the body is off the chassis,100% stripped (including all paint) and is upside down for the start of re-finishing(getting carried away again  )It will be 'concours' underside as well as above!!!!
I'm getting off subject now, sorry.
So, any 'cottage industry' would have to be very small I'm afraid, particularly at the moment as I need the summer weather to spray etc.
As I said though I would be happy to salvage and restore seats wherever possible, let me see how bad they are by posting pictures if poss., and then a Tel. call would be easiest to make any firm arrangements,
Cheers,
Dave

Yes mine has really badly split right the way across from one side to the other. to be honest it may well be beyond salvage. I may have to bite the bullet and buy a repro one. The guy I bought it from had been using it off road in a local quarry and he was a big chap. That's why I think the damage is so extensive. Will post a photo later on and you can see if you think its too far gone,
cheers Paul.

Paul,
As long as too much material hasn't been lost to corrosion then the fracture should be possible to repair, and with reinforcement on the inside a decent restoration should be possible.
Anyway I'll have a better idea after seeing it,

Dave

Re: Seat Restoration
Mmmmmmmmmmmm
That is bad and certainly would be a challenge to do.
A couple of questions - are there any bits of the base missing and is there much corrosion, i.e.is there sufficient thickness of steel left to work with at and around the break ?
I expect it would probably be possible to reclaim and restore but whether its economically viable would be the question ?
(But as they are N.L.A. its really how much you value originality I guess ?)
Check the couple of points I raised and if you want to proceed further I would really need to see the base to confirm I can do an effective restoration and if I can, of course, the cost.
Please feel free to tel. ***** (eve.) to discuss,

Cheers,
Dave

I don't know I did try to restore mine.... ok the pan is like 87% OK... only the foam and cover are dead..... a did put on an old skyteam cover.... as I do stil have a neat Honda brown cover on a Skyteam 5,5l which I didn't want to destroy..... So after painted Honda (stencil from Temao).... it looks OK but no comfort at all anymore :-(.... the old honda foam was rubish.... So I put it on my ST-70 Gold.....
Finaly I bought me a brandnew CT-70 seat.... Price wise OK 109$ (shipment and toolkit clip included) But realy it makes a real difference for my back.... So realy restoring the seat.... repairing the rust, paint, foam, cover, Honda stencil, time, I don't know.....

ps: pieces for the gold are more welcome...... ;)
