Now that you have removed the stickers did you take dimensions of the exact locations as you only get one shot at putting them back on, i have visited the point in your restoration on my own machine and it does get easier but can still throw up some surprises.

Wannes - Thanks for the info about the fuel filter, I will definitely buy one.

Tufty, I haven't actually removed the stickers yet. Going to do it later in the week but after your suggestion I will take some dimensions on where to re-apply them.

Update

My brother in law helped me remove the sleeves from the rear shocks tonight, we engineered a tool to take them apart (used two pieces of drilled wood and two 12inch G-clamps).

Just have to remove the stand and the foot pegs from the bottom of the engine and I am ready to take the bits to the powder coaters :)

Hi Tufty,

Yes, if I could have the dimensions that would be great! Thank you!

I joined that ST70 group on facebook a few weeks ago, there are some great pictures on there. Have you watched the video of the guy doing wheelies everywhere. He is only riding an ST50 but pops the front wheel up like it's a superbike

I was never able to wheelie mine as the front wheel would just never come up!

Going to remove the footpegs and centre stand tonight ready for my trip on Saturday to the powder coaters. Also, have a big box of bits coming from David Silver Spares today :)

Hi Tufty, thanks for the very kind offer but I have been and done it already :) Measured every sticker including the helmet holder one

Update

Foot pegs and stand are removed and I am all ready to take the parts to the powder coaters on Saturday. I have left the stickers on the bike because I can't be bothered to remove them  I will let the guys at the powder coaters do it, they will probably blast them off anyway!

Whilst I wait for my parts to be blasted and coated I have lots of things that need cleaning up/spraying etc.

True.
If you ever have to remove them, heating them with a hair dryer makes it very easy!

Frame and parts have been dropped off for blasting and powder coating. Should get them back in a couple of weeks. Once I get them back the bike should take shape very quickly :)

Update

Been a bit busy lately with work and seeing the girlfriend so haven't had much chance to work on the bike. I did spend a good few hours yesterday afternoon/evening working on it though.

I have finally sprayed the following:

Front and rear brake plates
2 brake arms
2 Axle bolt ends

The 2 bottom ends of the shocks and the battery cage are in primer and if I get the chance I will spray them tonight.

I have decided against buying new rear shocks and have managed to clean them up a bit using Autosol. I am not happy with them by any means but I cannot justify spending £38 + £8 delivery for a new pair. Are the original ones filled with oil or something? The rod doesn't move too well (it isn't bent) but I can't see any way of dismantling them. I might spray the springs as well because they are slightly rusted at the bottom (nothing serious - only surface rust). The springs won't show on mine anyway but want to prevent rust.

I haven't heard back about the frame yet so might give the powder coaters a call later on today as I have next week off work to work on the bike etc and won't be able to do anything unless I have the frame back!

I am going to finish spraying tonight so will hopefully get some pictures then. Got some chrome paint which will be interesting! I wonder how it will come out :)

Quick update - Just phoned the powder coaters and it looks like I won't have it in time for next week. The guy who owns the company had a death in the family and a couple of other workers have been off sick meaning it hasn't been done yet. They are not sure if they can get it done by Saturday and I need to phone on Wednesday to check again. If not, some time next week probably but they can't be sure.

Update

Spoke to the powder coaters today. My black parts have been done and they *might* be able to get the frame done tomorrow. If so, I will be able to pick it up on Saturday.

Fingers crossed everyone! I need to phone them tomorrow to find out exactly what's going on though and if I can collect them on Sat for definite.
