I will be delighted to see all the new parts together.

Putting the bike back together is the best part, it's nice to see the bike improving so quick.
Keep going!
I will keep going don't worry :)

Just had a parcel put on my desk... a load of spares - woohoo!

I now have all the bits to put the wheels etc back together. Getting my bearings pressed in tomorrow I think.

Need to get some photos for you all! :)

Hi Woosher!

Nothing yet, it's still in a bad way compared to my new shiny parts! I have decided to give the frame a clean up (try and treat the rust spots and touch them up). I want to keep the bike original to a degree and if the frame was tidied up a bit it wouldn't look that bad.

I think sorting the wheels and mudguards will make a huge difference on the appearance of the bike. My wheels were very badly rusty, now they look brand new (I had them shotblasted and then powdercoated).

Do you have any pictures of your bike?

Update:

Tried to put the tyres on the rims last night... not having much luck. Managed to get the tube in etc but I can't get the tyre to sit right up against the rim. Haven't even attempted the other side yet!

That's one of the worst jobs ever... Really a pain in the ***.
Here some hints:
- use a bit of WD-40 or kitchen oil on your RIMS. It will make your tires slide up further with ease. (Of course you can also use special tyre grease for this)
- bolt the two parts together (with all bolts! Otherwise your Rims will bent...) and fill the tube with air, but much more than needed. (around 3 bars) This will make your tires expand.

Thanks for the advice. Been a bit busy with work and other things so haven't had anymore time to sort this.

Went and bought some grease and some other things yesterday to help with the build. I have also sorted out all the nuts and bolts etc so am ready to bolt the rims back together etc. Going to put my bearings in tonight or tomorrow I think.

Bought some White Hammerite so I can touch up parts of the frame which are not looking too great!

Going to get some pictures this weekend as this thread is lacking them!

Update:

Wheels are now together:

Since taking that photo the rear sprocket etc is now on. Had great difficulty getting the circlip on even with the correct tool. I had to go see my uncle who put it on for me (he is very experienced with serving/fixing motorbikes).

Apart from the wheels I didn't get much done yesterday. Going outside in a minute to clean up the brake plates and hopefully re-assemble those. Might give the frame a clean and sort the rust so I can start putting the bike back together on Friday (I have the day off).

Thanks Wannes :)

Update:

Yesterday was spent cleaning bits up. I have cleaned both my axle bolts up so I can re-use them. The ends are very pitted but I have decided to spray the ends a silver colour so it will match the wheels.
I have also cleaned up the rear brake plate and spent a good couple of hours trying to sand it down and then buff it up. I failed.
The surface is now smooth enough for me to paint. I know you are supposed to polish them but it will look a mess and take far too long so on Thursday I am going to buy some silver paint I can use to spray it.

Unfortunately I have a BIG problem. I can't get that stupid oil seal out of the front wheel. It's a sticky 'goo-like' substance now so ground it out with a dremel tool. There is a side recess which the seal sits in and I can't get down in there to pick the bits out, this means I won't be able to put the new seal in :(

I have two options:

1). Try and find something I can soak the plate in which will dissolve the rubber.
2). Buy a new brake plate.

To be honest, the time it's taking and the amount I have wasted on this I am better off buying a new brake plate. Only problem is they are £60+ which is a lot of money for such a small item. Might have to bite the bullet and get one but am still thinking about it.

Just bought a new one  lol

Just spent a fortune on a load of parts which will mean I can get the bike to a road worthy condition :)
