Smashing it would really be a shame...
You really have to dismantle the plastic part before youc an reach the nut.
Turns out there was a screw in the plastic switch afterall. Your diagram didn't load when I looked earlier.

I have managed to get the switch off but before I noticed the screw I tried breaking it off and have marked the plastic a little :( oh well, these things happen.

Got the rear mudguard off as well so I am all ready for taking the parts tomorrow. The following is getting shot blasted:

2 Hubs
4 Wheel Rims
2 Mud guards
Chain guard
Front fork guides

:D

I have taken my parts and should have them back in about 2-3 weeks.

The guy who I met there knew a lot about the bikes and said it was a 'Rare beast' and 'As rare of rocking horse sh*t'!

He did tell me I should get the frame done too...

Yeah, in Europe they are 100 times as rare as in Great-Britain.
A lot of Ladies come to Europe from the U.K.

Yeah, I told you you should have got the frame done too.
You will regret it, once the bike is completely put together and everything is shining and working perfect except for... the frame.

But... it does have the charm as well, the rusty places.

Another Update:

I had a couple of hours to work on the bike yesterday. Not a huge amount done but I started cleaning up some of the bits I took off. I cleaned and polished up the foot brake which came up quite nicely although there is a bit of rust under the actual pedal itself.

Also attempted to clean the brake hub sides but need a proper buffer for that.

And I have also been soaking one of the foot pegs in coca-cola overnight, going to check how it turned out at lunchtime.

I am back at work this week so progress is going to be quite slow :(

Cola is not really the best way to go.
I think the result will be a bit dissapointing.

Better is to sandblast, or to use the electrolyse process.
(google search should help you on that last one.)
Otherwise, Fertan (rustbuster) an repaint with a black outdoor spray.

The speed is not important, better to take your time an get everything right!
Just don't stop, ever, once you've stopped, it's hard to start again.

The coke hasn't made the slightest bit of difference! I know about electrolysis but I don't have the use of a garage so can't really do it very well. I have some rust remover at home (Hammerite stuff) which I might try.

Don't worry, I won't stop until it is finished. Keep thinking of getting the frame done but still can't decide :? :?:

Update:

Ordered nearly all the parts I need to put the bike back together. A load of them were out of stock but I should have them in 7-9 days.

Had a call this morning to say my parts have been blasted and powdercoated and are ready for collection! Only problem being that I am so busy with work at the moment I can't have any time off!

Might be the end of the next week before I am able to go collect the parts! :(

Progress is slow!

Update:

I went and collected my parts which have been shotblasted and powder coated on Saturday. They have come out great (will try and post some photos tonight when I get home).

Yesterday I set to work on the brake plates and stripped those down (apart from the oil seal - see other thread). I am going to get them buffed next weekend so they are ready to be put back together.

Also, my order from David Silver Spares was dispatched this morning meaning I should get all my parts either tomorrow or Wednesday. Hopefully this weekend some real progress can be made (such as putting the wheels back together etc).

I am still thinking about getting the frame done. The other parts look so nice that the frame will really stand out :(

Problem is that it's a long drive to the powder coaters and including petrol there and back will cost me £150+ I reckon. I am going to think about it all week.

Yeah!
I will be delighted to see all the new parts together.

Putting the bike back together is the best part, it's nice to see the bike improving so quick.
Keep going!
