Tufty - Thanks a million, I owe you a pint or 5! I will check out that guy on eBay about the decals :)

Waynus - Oh dear, means I will need to drop the engine then. I know the bolts have no paint on them but obviously the underneath does. I am really dreading dropping the engine and it is a last resort!

An uncle came over to visit tonight who remembers the bike when it was bought new and he commented on how nice it was looking. He had a look at my starting problem and we have discovered there is no spark. This will mean it's either the grounding or the the spark plug boot at fault. I will check the boot on wednesday night and really hope it is just that.
He also did a check on the battery and it's as dead as a dodo so will use my new one which should arrive tomorrow.

At least I have something to go on now and I hope I can get it running!

Thanks again :)

James, you can also reach the coil be removing the gas tank, if you rather do that ;)

Tufty, for pictures see general/meeting.
Enjoy!

Hi Guys
its happened again I received the condenser from David Silver today and guess what it is the wrong condenser so I rang MBUK who have told me there are two possible condensers left and right handed depending on the stator plate no where in the parts diagrams is this shown or even mentioned I now need to reorder but am going to be away?????????

Hi Tufty,

Sorry to hear you have the wrong one :(

I have seen one on eBay within the last week or so, might be worth having a look on there!

Hi Guys
Further update on the condenser story, apparently there were 2 manufacturers of the stator plate and for some reason they fitted the condenser at 180 degrees different to one another there are about 5 per cent like mine so you to might have a Special one David Silver are going to replace the part as all the honda manuals only show the one part no but if you go to the MBUK site there are 2.
P.S looked at the pictures that Waynus linked to I love the mettalic green dax with the white seat with green piping (maybe next project)when I finally sort this one

That's interesting to know, thanks for the info.
Received the O-Rings this afternoon Tufty - many thanks and I have sent you an email :)

Been busy the last couple of nights but hoping to have a fiddle with the bike tomorrow night if I get chance. Car is having an MOT and service tomorrow, fingers crossed that it passes!

I figured I drop in some additional info.
6v cranks: 2 types
S (short) type:
HITACHI
(flat flywheel, standard rpm)

L (long) type
MITSIBUSHI
NIPPON DENSO
DAIJATSU
...
(thicker flywheel, slow and fast versions)

The ignition/stator points and flywheel always have to be the same make!

Update

SHE RUNS!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

What a day I have had today! Bought a new battery in the week and charged it for 24 hours, plugged it into the bike this morning.... nothing. no electrics still! Then I decided to take another look at Waynus' wiring diagram and remembered that the ignition barrel/lock needed to be earthed. Scraped some paint away, turned the key and I had a working brake light and horn.
Decided to kick it over, no spark!

Whilst I thought about the sparking problem I changed the o-ring which Tufty kindly sent to me in the post. The original one had perished and the new one I had was nearly a perfect fit. I no longer have a leak! :D

I then decided I would drop the engine (took only a few minutes to do) but scratched the mudguard quite badly! :(
Then my dad helped with scraping some paint off the bracket the condenser sits on (used a dremel tool for this) and then we put the engine back in. I then spent the next 20mins or so putting the carb, air filter etc back on the bike. Still can't find my plug spanner so put a new plug in the boot and kicked it over... there was a spark.
Then I connected the boot to the plug still in the engine.... and it started... first kick! Runs really well and the throttle doesn't even need adjusting.

I need to do an oil change (might tackle that tomorrow) and I also need to put the chain and chain guard back on the bike.

Good news is that it's running and starts very easily (first kick everytime). Only problem is that my headlight isn't working and I'm not sure why. Does it need to be earthed as well? I might just have it wired up wrong though.

I have a couple of ideas for the bike... might not put decals on it just yet and I also fancy putting a different seat cover on it although I'm not 100% sure about that yet.
