Date of manufacture
Can someone please help to identify the year of manufacture of just rebuilt st70?
I have rebuilt it using a frame and most of the main components that I acquired about
30 years ago. At that time the main reason for aquiring the parts was to use them as
spares for the st70 that I was and still use. Having decided that the parts would never
be needed as spares, I gathered the parts needed to build a complete bike.
Then came the difficult part--I never had a registration number and the DVLA want a
year of manufacture so that they can issue a new number plate. I have tried Honda's
department that deals with year of manufacture but the were unable to help but said
that the club may be able to help? Danielle Dymond at the DVLA (a very helpful young lady)
also said that the club may be able to assist. So here is hoping.
The frame No is ST70 138716
The HONDA decal on the frame is stick on plastic not the metal type
My feeling is that it is about 1974
Many thanks

Re: Date of manufacture
You may be lucky. It took Honda about eight weeks to find out that they had no record of my frame No. I thought that this was the era of almost instant communication
but perhaps they sent a runner with a message in a cleft stick? The good news is that they returned my £30 cheque.
Best wishes

Somewhere between 1970 and 1973.

I've got a similar situation - an old frame ST139273 dated around 1972 with no docs of any sort but according to other ST's I've seen mines only 757 frames away from yours.
I was advised to use the following procedure and believe this is correct but If I'm not I sure someone will correct me.

Get the bike up and running and get it MOT'd - you don't need lights or pillion footrests so you could get a daytime MOT and register it as a single seater even though it may have dualseat.
Take some pics of the complete bike clearly showing the frame and engine number.
Join the Vintage Japanese M/Cycle club.
Look on their website for details of what paperwork you need to send them, including the new MOT and ay previous docs you may have as evidence you've got a complete roadworthy bike.
If they approve they will issue a certificate to prove its existence that I understand is acceptable to the DVLA and they should issue you with a registration number and VRD.
Now you've got the VRD and MOT you'll need to insure it so you can get it road registered.

I hope this is correct so if I'm not someone please tell me!
Cheers
Brian

Yes I agree. I think mine is pre '74 as the frame number is not stamped on the headstock.
