LIFAN ENGINE

Does anyone know if a 107cc Lifan engine would bolt straight onto an ST70 frame without any modifications needed.Presumably a suitable exhaust and carb would also be essential items rather than usiing the original ST items.
Any advice or recommendations welcome before I decide what to do with it.It's either restore it to as near original as possible or go t'other way and maybe make it into a pocket-rocket.

Hopefully meet some fellow ST''ers at Kempton Park Autojumble on Saturday???

Re: LIFAN ENGINE
You need a new carb. mostly a carb comes with the engine (PZ22 fake keihin or something like that)
It does fit, except the clutch cable mount and it's possible you need to increase the space between the engine emounts a bit.

Hello Brian,

Welcome aboard the good ship ST :D :D

A few of us will be attending the Rayleigh "Sundowner" show on the 7th, and it would be good to see you there. :)

I will be taking both my bikes, A red 140cc "Pocket Rocket" and an original "Lady Dax". You should be able to see the differance between the two and make up your own mind as to which way you would prefer to go.

Hope to see you there, keep watching this site for more details later ;)

Many thanks Simon

Re: LIFAN ENGINE
That's great and look forward to saying hello.
I'll probably have a few other questions to throw around unless they've been answered before I get there.
For example; How to dismantle rear shocks?Does any one have the special removal tool 07959 3290000? (Could probably make one)

Currently I'm scanning the market place for a good servicable exhaust system with top & bottom heatshields and a twist-locking petrol cap.All seem to available from "down-under" but a bit pricey.

I've got an original Honda parts list and I picked up a complete original Honda workshop manual at Kempton Pk autojumble that covers ST50/70/CT70/K/K1/K2/K3/H/HK1 and lists all the service tools.I reckon these manuals could come in handy and if anyone needs to check part nos. or similar info I'd be pleased to help. I'll be bringing these with me to the Rayleigh show if any one needs to refer to them.

Cheers

Thanks for the info about rear shock dismantling - sounds hazardous without the right tool.I've got a couple of whopping great sash clamps and some bits of 1" steel angle so can make my own spring compressor. The top covers are in good nick and quite restorable but I'll reserve judgement on the other parts.
Looking forward to seeing a whole flock of luvly little ST's at Rayleigh next weekend!

Thought I'd share my experience dissmantling the rear shocks from my '73 ST-70
Put bottom mounting in a vice (best to remove bush first)
Have a big bowl of weetabix, or if you prefer ,porridge.
Grasp top shroud with your strongest arm and pull down to compress spring while holding top mount up.
Slip a spanner in to hold locknut and unscrew top mount from piston rod --easy peasy --no special tools needed, just moderate strength.
The spring has very little preload(ie.- is under a very small amount of compression)
It really was a simple ,easy task,no need to buy/make special tools.
Cheers.

Lifan is a good enginem just make sure you buy it through an authorized dealer . As I would with any engine - if not you are left alone to deal with the manufacturerer if something goes wrong.
