I have just bought my 1st honda st 70, it is very tired and needs a lot of work, which I am looking foreword to, It doesn't have any documentation what's so ever,I have frame and engine numbers and think its age is approx 69-70. I dont want to spend a lot of time and money restoring it if I can't get it registered. can anyone help, thanks in advance. :?:

I recently brought a basket case from Ebay, with no documentation, etc and managed to get a HPI check done just on the VIN number.
As the bike had been registered in the UK before, the HPI check gave me the UK registration number.
Lucily the HPI check came back clean, only two owners from new!
1976 lady :)

With a VIN number and registration details you can apply for a V5 :)
I applied for the log book from the DVLA using the V62 form, whilst I was at it I also submitted the SORN form V890.
It cost £25 but I will be very happy if i get a log book back from the DVLA.
Only sent it on Monday and they say it takes up to 6 weeks.

Hope this helps,

How about a picture of it?

You may of solved a problem there for me Blue, I too have bought a Chaly recently without docs, have applied for V5 but they are less than helpful.

Didn't know you could get the reg no through HPI, might just give that a go.
Cheers
Phil.

Got a letter from them very helpful ar*eholes in Swansea today, because of the "lack of information" (I gave them all the info I had), anyway I have to take it to the vehicle inspection office's in Manchester on the 16th of this month.
So I will have to put the stripped frame, engine, box's of parts in the car, have a frickin day off work & cross my fingers that everything is in order

That's unfortunate Phil, good luck.
I guess it's best to get as much info before you talk to them, hope it works out for you.
No v5 back myself yet, but no news is good news.

Cheers Blue, Tufty I didn't get any paperwork with the bike, only a receipt from the previous owner ( I also enclosed a copy of that with my application to DVLC).
I will post the results of the "inspection" as & when I go to Manchester, in the hope it will help others register their bike's.

Re: how to register st 70
I was reading the posts about registering bikes on here. In California, where I am, we just make an appointment with the DMV, show them our pink slip (title) and say "bought this bike and I want this in my name". They say, $50.00 dollars please or whatever the current costs...., and they give you stickers for your license plate and a temporary registration and mail you a new permanent registration and a new title with your name on it in about a week. It is pretty easy. Of course I can see if numbers or paperwork are missing that it can get a bit funny having to duplicate the records, etc.... but here is is fairly simple either on or off road. They just love registering you and taking your money!

Hi DaxSt70,
The point here is there is no pink slip, in the uk we call this a V5.
In the uk if you have the V5 it's free to get the registration, we don't have to get this each year, but we have to pay road tax each year.
Make sense?
