Your help is very much appreciated Arny, I will let you know how I get on and if this solves my problem. Fingers crossed the weather holds for a ride this weekend.

Replaced the condenser yesterday and it's a completely different bike. Went on a 30 mile run and it rode brilliantly. Thanks for the help everyone.

 Didn't loose any skin, but the condensor I had purchased and the one I removed were evr so slightly different in shape, so had to very carefully modify it to fit without touching the coils, but all went well and it now runs great. Cheers for the guideance, it helped me massively.

Now we just need the weather to sort itself out :x

I was reading through old posts because I am replacing points and condenser in my ST70 (1970) this weekend. What do you mean "the old fashioned way"?

Novice here, thanks!

If you are used to setting the points, yo are able to achieve a decent (not perfect) result with only an eye and a screwdriver for tools.
The points should start to open before 'F'. So close them completely when the flywheel is about 3-4mm before the mark.
(you can re-check with a very thin cigarette paper, or measuring plates. Pull it and see when it becomes loose)

I am not used to it. Haha... Like once every 20 or 30 years (maybe) but I believe I know what you mean now. Thanks. Going to try it this weekend.

Make sure you turn the flywheel in the right direction (follow the arrow) so that 'before' and 'after' aren't mistaken.
