Rear shocker - shocker
Hi Guys,
Picked up a 1974 ST70 at the weekend, and stripped it this afternoon to see what is useable etc.
My question here is how do the rear shocks split? Can't find a way to get 'em apart. The chrome shrouds need renewing and the tops require spraying along with the frame n swing arm.
It needs a chain guard (missing) and the wheel rims look too far gone to be of use - can you still get 'em? or do I need to look for an alternative?
Thanks in advance for any info', first of many posts i dare say!
Lou........

Doh.....er...(half an hour later)....just found the 'parts shop' link ....answered my own question really...........- 'crackin little site Grommit'.

(Still need help with the shocks though) - much obliged.

Hi Lou,

Firstly, welcome to the site - hope you find it useful!

Another member asked about getting the rear shocks apart just the other day, check out the info at the bottom of this thread: http://www.st70.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=562
Quite a few of us have done it (although it takes a bit of time and you need the right tool).

As for the wheel rims, even if they're rusty you can get them shotblasted and then powder coated/sprayed (what I did) or alternatively you can still buy new ones - your decision. Chain guards are still available new but only in certain colours I think, if your bike is an unusual colour then you could buy a new one and get it resprayed.

If you have any more questions please feel free to post them up!
Thanks

Thanks James, I'll check out the 'shocks' thread.
The wheel rims have rusted right through so I'll rebuild with new rims - the bike is red and they still list the red chain guard on the spares list. My wish list keeps growing, it'll soon be a shipping order! I'll have to do some editing before it gets out of hand!
Great site.

Brilliant, thanks Robgvx.
The chrome is pretty well shot and metal badly pitted on mine too. I'm hoping I'll be able to cock some up with stainless tube/pipe in work - but won't know if thats possible until I get them in pieces.
Thanks again.
