What is and What Should Never be

I've ton a ton of research since getting my ST70 (a970) 3 speed auto. I have read many websites and looked at a ton of different models. There are however a few things I can't understand yet (well probably more than a few things).... 1) My bike came with this crank type of thing on the triple tree where the nut usually is. Why does mine have it and I dont see it anywhere else? What is it for? 2) Mine came with bars that extend from the front frame down to protect the engine (I suppose). Is this stock? 3) I hear a lot about KO-K1_etc, etc.... I am assuming mine is a KO model because of three speed/auto 1970 mfg.? * I have a manual on order. ** I bought my ST70 used from the original owner just a month or so ago. *** I am trying to learn about these wonderful little machines so I can appreciate them even more.

Must have been original idea for the "early" bikes. I guess they discontinued it for some reason. Probably thought no one really takes them apart?

Is your red? It is a DAX?
