Does anyone know the MPG of an ST70?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi James
You should get between 50/55 to the LITRE which means 100 miles to the tank which is pretty economical as my everyday car only gives 26/30 to the gallon.
I also found the writings of DGUUPY very interesting and also quite spooky as I used to commute to the Kraft Foods factory in Banbury between 2003 and 2006 which is less than 1/2 mile from where he worked, this was a round trip of 200 miles every work day just to get to work additionally I used to drive nationwide and into europe on several occasions and have never seen another ST but one of the technicians I worked with in Banbury told me his brother had an original ST50 one previous owner m/c stored in a warehouse in Brackley and only this week I met up with an old friend who used to own a red ST70 1975 and he is going to see if it is still on the farm where he used to ride it.
Sorry about the detour from your original question,I will hopefully get some photo,s of my m/c over to you in the next couple of days.
Regards Clive

Thanks for the info Tufty, that's good news about the MPG. Although I used the bike for only a summer I never really got chance to test how many miles I could get to a tank etc (because of breaking down, not running it to the reserve etc).
I plan on using my bike in the summer for local journeys as my car is quite uneconomical (Renault Clio Sport with a 182bhp 2.0l engine)!

Also, with all this doom and gloom about at the moment I have a funny feeling that petrol prices are going to skyrocket again meaning us bike owners will be laughing :)

That's an interesting story about your route to work. I used to drive past the Prodrive factory on the way to see an ex-girlfriend a few years back... she lived in Banbury. I don't know anyone else with an ST (about from you guys on here)!

Looking forward to photos :)

Quite different stories compared to Belgium...
ST70 and especially ST50 owners (and waaaaaay to much replica owners) on each corner of the street.

Consumption? Varries from 0,4G/ 100miles to 2,5G/100miles (top-tuned)
My bikes ran:
Honda Monkey AB27 engine 50cc, 4-speed manual, 16mm Chinese carb: 0,6G/100 miles
Honda ST50E 72cc engine (original Lady engine) 3-speed semi, 16mm Chinese carb: 0,52G
Honda C70 72cc, 4-speed racing, Keihin 19mm carb: 0,8G
Honda CF50 88cc, 4-speed short, Takegawa Superhead, Kitaco UltraClutch, Keihin 16mm carb: 0,58G
Honda Z50j 106cc, 4-speed, Takegawa SuperHead, Takegawa OT clutch, VM26 carb: ??G
(have to test it yet, but will probably fit a Keihin PC20 for consumption issues)
8-)

By the way, the given technical info that originally came with the bike, is calculated at a constant speed of +-20mph.
Which would be around 4-5000rpm. Some of the engines above easily go as high as 12.000rpm

Hi James
Talking of fuel economy, my wifes car is a Fiat 2.0 ltr turbo JTD diesel and it returns on average 58/60 MPH my personal car is a Saab Aero convertible 1.9 hot which when new gave 208 BHP and with a few ecu tweaks hopefully is nearly the same and can quite upset the local boy racers can return 30 mpg but more usually the mid 20's so perhaps all of the ST's will give different returns dependent on carb settings sprocket size etc, I got mine running today but only for a few short minutes until the dreaded debris in the fuel tank washed through even though it had been cleaned so dont forget to fit an aftermarket filter like what I didn't DOOH.
Ever nearer to being free.

Good shout about the fuel filter. Waynes advised me about getting one but I had forgotten. Do I need 2 (1 reserve, 1 main)?

I have bought a new fuel tank as my old one is very rusty inside but looks like new on the inside! Hopefully I won't have the debris problem again (had it previously and caused a break down involving a 6 mile push home)

The most important one is the reserve, because most of the dirt lies on the bottom of your tank.
I'd suggest to fit 2 filters, since costs and labour are very low.

Do you have a website I could order 2 from? I might be putting the bike back together this weekend so will have to order them today to get them in time :)

Yep, they will work just fine.
You can get them at pretty every local motorbike shop (even lawnmowers,... tend to have these)
There are two versions: cheap ones (around 1€ here) and washable filters (around 4-5€).
