ST70 JDM Model. What do I have here?
Hello,

New to the site. I picked this up and not sure exactly what I have other than it's an ST70 JDM. Can't figure out the year. I'd like to find the missing decal as well. Anybody know how these Vin's decode?

Thanks in advance.

Waw that's a cool ST-70.
Late 1979 I think.... you have a Nippon speedo with indicator.....
What size off tires do you have 3,50/10 or 4,00/10?

Oh yes Welcome

Could you post the engine and frame numbers?
Or it is an earlier CT70 type with both a rear hand and foot break,
or it was a CT70H manual with a semi engine fitted.

Frame # is ST70-3002779. Engine # is really close(bike not handy right now). Iy has 3.5's on it. 1 brake hand lever only. Honestly it seems much earlier then 79.

Thanks guys.

You're right, this bike should be dated around 1970.
I assume the forks are right for the model, the frame stickers are not. All other decals are the ones of an export (Japanese type), so is the speedo and headlight bucket, fenders, seat.

The brake lever probably comes from a CT70H version.
Indicators, horn button, rear foot pegs and mirror are missing.
So is the ignition switch. The little black part (cable guide) is very rare and valuable.

Re: ST70 JDM Model. What do I have here?
Those late 70's bikes have total different seats, the seat on mine appears original to the bike (bolts untouched). I think it's around a '72. It looks very similar to other known '72's. Exhaust is black like other '72's and appears original and the fender styles and seat styles are consistent with the '72's. The problem is I can't seem to decode this VIN. Went to a local dealer who couldn't figure it out because here in the states we don't have the Japanese domestic model info. All of the European sites seam to have just European VIN's. JDM Vin's are unique and so is the decaling. This is a very low mileage bike, the stickers all appear original. I could not locate any Trail 70 decals quite like this one in either Canada or the US because it's Japan specific. The speedometer make and style is the same as a Silvertag KO I had except for the turn signal indicators. The Japanese models all had turn signals and no skid plates or engine protection because they are more street oriented. Glad I came across this. It certainly is a different here in the US! I found my turn signal/horn switch on Ebay in Australia and my ignition switch from the same source. Turn signals would be nice, but not required.

Here's a crappy looking 72 http://upic.me/i/7s/img_2512.2.jpg

Re: ST70 JDM Model. What do I have here?
The frame stickers are wrong.
IF the frame stickers would be right, then:
- the fork legs are wrong
- the detacheable fork system + wire loom + throttle cable are wrong
- the exhaust shield is wrong
- the frame colour is wrong
- the crash guard is missing
- the front brake lever is wrong
- the speedo is wrong
- the frame number prefix is wrong
- the engine is wrong
...
So it would be way better to just have the wrong frame stickers.
The bike has been in a serious accident (or violant theft). The frame is completely bent.
They did some (rough) frame work, some (sloppy) electrical work.
They probably tried to peel off the damaged stickers (see chain guard) so they might have well fitted new frame decals.

All in all, it's a nice original early type export ST which I would love to own.
The frame decals are NOT Japanese, they are definately 1976 USA.

The Trail 70 (CT70'76) was sold in 1976. It was available in one color: Tahitian Red. The "TRAIL 70" decal was yellow. The "HONDA" decal was blue. The engine was an OHC single cylinder displacing 72cc. It had a 3-speed transmission and manual clutch. The engine serial number began CT70-2500004.
