So "What did you do to your bike today?"
It's funny as the sun comes out the forum seems to get a bit more active. :D
Wouldn't it be great if the weather was always like this.
Lots of bikes streaming down to Hastings for the weekend, the A21 was full of them.
My 7 year old daughter was convinced she saw some of "daddy's bikes" as she put it on her journey home today from camber.
More sun please :D

Getting to the point of this post, today I was trying to find out the paint colour code for my c90 12v engine that's in my oh so "rare" lady and stumbled on a thread on the c90 forum that I thought was interesting and may stimulate some of you to tell us all what you have been up to. Credit to the c90 forum which is very active for some reason, weird as ST's are a much better bike in my opion, although the c90 engine rocks :)

So as the title says, "What did you do to your bike today?"

Today I got my headlights working on my 1976 Lady, she has a 12v 2002 c90 engine in, so not a standard ST but it was very rewarding to see the high and low beam shining at me. Even better to watch the lights get brighter as I reved the engine.
I even went for a run, only down to the bottom of my road and back but it's a start :D
Shorrocks, I kept my eyes open for white vans and was lucky not to come across one, hope your on the mend fella.
Rear lights to do them I'm ready for the MOT, it's been a long time coming but I guess that's part of the fun for me.

What did you do?

HI
I took both my purple ST70 Custom and my very very rare Lady Dax out for a run the Lady started second kick but the jingcheng purple one took for ages (lost count of kicks) I am hoping more of us can get together this year so lets get a calendar going of meets and stuff.
Can you sort this Blue as you are a geek on this sort of stuff

Hi all,
I'm going to try and fit my auxiliary fuel tank today :?
Its something that I have been meaning to do for ages, but since my accident and now my subsequent strip down and rebuild, I thought now is the time to try it.

Its a pre-mix oil tank from a 1970's Suzuki AP50. The frames are relativity the same and the dimensions are almost spot on. I've had the tank powder coated so it should be no probs :( :(

This is the tank..................

100_0589.JPG100_0590.JPG100_0592.JPG Once its been fitted, it will give me another 1 litre of fuel :D :D ...............
100_0598.JPG100_0593.JPG I think this looks so much better than the off the shelf aluminium tanks. Has anybody fitted this tank before and if so what was the outcome?

Many thanks Simon

Hi Simon,
I've seen one fitted and have one in the shed myself.
Did not get to see how it was secured but Im sure it can't be that hard to fit.
Not sure how you would connect the fuel line though.
Let us know how you go about fitting it,

Cheers

Hello Blue,
On the tank, there are 3 retained threaded fixing points welded to the back. These will need to be offered up to the frame and marked. The best way I found to do this was, to grind to a point three fixings that will be eventually used to mount the tank. Once screwed in to the back of the tank these points will stick out slightly. I will then remove the helmet lock, and position where it will fit, looking at the accessibility from the inside as well. :D :D

If everything works out, then its simply a matter, with my hand, to gently tap on the face of the tank to leave an impression of the points on the frame.
These can then be centre punched and drilled.

After I have stuck some foam strip on the inside edge of the tank, its ready to fit. There is a breather pipe situated at the top of the tank, this will also need to be drilled out and the pipe pulled through. Without this the fuel will not flow properly.

Finally the fuel comes from a petcock mounted at the bottom of the tank, its simply a matter of taking an in-line fuel tap, and with a brass "Y" piece connecting to the reserve side of the original fuel tap. :D :D :D

Just one thing, make sure the seats on when you measure, you don't want the tank to sit to high.

Hope that helps100_0606.JPG100_0607.JPG

Re: So "What did you do to your bike today?"
After seeing Simons progress with his AP50 oil tank, converted to a fuel tank I decided to get mine off the shelf and look at fitting it today.
Thanks for the info Simon, it all makes sense and should be easy to fit.

The one thing I can see that is different is just above the petcock mine has 3 holes in the round recess.
I notice yours has something covering the holes, did you add that, what is it?
My one does not have anything on it so I shelved it a while ago with a view to welding the holes but I'm intrigued whats blocking yours.

Today I Finally finished all of my electrics, it's such a good feeling revving the engine and watching the lights glow.
Even better that I did it all myself :D

I just have to fit the front mudguard securely then I'm off for an MOT :D
Not as easy as you would think as I'm trying to fit helmet mudguards to my hydrolic forks.
I was going to revert back to springers, but with a disk brake as I like the original look.
So many decisions, No wonder I never finish it.

Hello Blue,
glad to see my little experiment has spurned you on. :D Just one thing to remember, Check the chain cover holes are not covered, not like me :?

The hole directly above the petcock is the sight glass. It consists of four parts; the back plate, rubber gasket, sight glass (plastic) and screw. This is work in progress as i'm not sure whether the rubber gasket or plastic window are petrol proof. I think your idea about welding up the hole would be better long term.

Hopefully I'll get my replacement parts from OORacing next week, and start to rebuild her in preparation for the July Ace cafe monkey/Dax run on the 7th. :D :D

I'll keep you posted on my developments

Hi all,

just a quick update on my progress today.(that's if anybody is interested)

Drilled a hole through the side of the lower part of the frame, so that the petrol pipe from the new extra tank feeds through, and comes out the front with all the other tubes, I think this looks much better :D :D Fuel Tank 5.JPG Also got the engine in, although i'm now thinking, that with my broken leg, it might be worth looking at installing a 150cc electric start. ;) ;)

Just ordered some new goodies, one major part, a rear disk brake conversion kit, I'll let you know how it goes, not really looking forward to fitting it, but I've always wanted it :? :?

I'll keep you posted

Yeah man, I'm a regular visitor of this thread.
It's great to see you put such an amount of thinking and detailing into this project.
It really isn't all about plug n play, and that's what I respect the most.
Keep up the good work and have a litte mercy on your leg!!!! :P
