Hi
I bought a pile of bits with the intention of building a road worthy bike. However there are so many pieces missing, it would probably be impractical/ too costly and the bits would be put to better use being used for spares. I am therefore looking for a "rough" but mostly complete project to fill in my time during the winter. I cannot afford a high quality up and running bike as I have just retired. I have experience at restoring many bikes from NSU Quicklys to Honda GL1100 so restoring an ST70 or Dax should be fairly straight forward.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks fivestrungouut

Ebay or Gumtree if your lucky.
What bits are you missing from your basket case?
It might not be as exspensive as you think.
Try david silver or ww.cmsnl.com for spares, ebay can be good too, but always check the prices against David Silver or CMSNL as sometimes you can buy it cheaper new!
I guess the ebay trick is dont rush to buy something parts do come back up and they are not a rare as the ebay seller likes you to think.

Goood Luck,

When I looked at what I had bought (over Ebay) and did a little research, I have the following:
Chinese frame (no number or v5c)
C70 engine (12v I think) unknown condition
Rotten seat
Correct forks (I think)
C70 footrests (not folding)
No centre or prop stand
No wiring loom
No headlamp or speedo
Wheels
Switchgear and controls too battered to use
Very rough mudguards
No exhaust system
Pair of usable rear shocks
Petrol tank
No carburettor
Box of misc. junk
I don't usually get caught out when buying stuff, but this came up at short notice and knowing what the stuff seems to fetch on Ebay, I had little time to research what I was buying. I know that many replacement parts are available from David Silver, CMSNL and Monkey bike UK, but to replace a lot of this stuff would probably cost more than the end result is worth.
I don't mind some hard work as I rebuilt a BSA B33 from a rusty hulk a few years ago, but it would be nice to start with something a little more complete.#
But thanks for replying
FSO
