Hi Clive

I take it the one you are referring to is like the one you saw on my ST50 Dax? As you know they are very small and do not allow much in the way of luggage capacity.
I have just ordered on of the repro ones from CMSNL for my ST70, it is not very large but does appear to be a better design than the other one and hopefully the quality is better.
Your best bet for decent luggage capacity is to look out for a genuine one from the 1970's, my fathers ST70 is still wearing the one he bought in the 1970's and it is quite a bit larger than the modern ones however finding one will be the problem. One was on Ebay a few weeks ago and the chap had trouble attacting any bids (he offered it to me at a lower price when it failed to sell but in the end I decided against it) so keep an eye out and one should turn up eventually.

Re: REAR LUGGAGE RACK
I have an original 1970's ST70 luggage rack which was bought with the bike all those years ago. It's covered in rust at the moment so will need re-chroming before I put it back on my bike.

Keep an eye out on eBay Clive! :)

Re: REAR LUGGAGE RACK
My new rack & harness arraived from CMSNL today, fantastic service as I only ordered them on Tuesday!

The rack is actually rather good.
Size wise it is larger than I thought and a 100% improvement to the Chinese ones most commonly sold. The only downside is that the quality is not up to much, the chroming is ok but the preparation of the metalwork is not brilliant and the bungee hook has been welded on slightly off-centre. My wife thinks I am nit-picking and none of this shows and to be perfectly honest she is probably correct.

The only other item I ordered was a pattern wiring harness as a genuine item is no-longer availabe. Would appear to be an exact replica and nicely made but I guess I won't be entirely sure until I plug it in!
Everything else (and the list so far totals many hundreds of pounds on top of the considerable amount on money I have already spent) is being ordered from David Silver as all the parts are still available from Honda.

Hi Tufty,
I have a NOS tower rack, a british made after market item. It will need rechroming as it sat in a damp storeroom for 25 years or so, or you could rub back the rust and paint it silver. It sounds worse than it really is. If interested let me know. Phil.

Hi
EVERYTHING IS NOT STILL AVAILABLE FROM HONDA. There are now a few things that you cant get - check the CMSNL site. I order my parts from D. Silver and CMSNL and if you look at the parts microfiche on CMSNL for the early daxes, you'll see that some parts do say "NO LONGER AVAILABLE". If you type the part number (that CMSNL says no longer available) of the item you want on the D. Silver site, nine times out of ten it will say the same thing. Try getting a headlight with the sidelight bulb holder in, the side emblems for your frame, a centrestand, wiring harness etc., these are just a few.

BY THE WAY - I BOUGHT ONE OF THE CMSNL RACKS FOR MY DAX - I THINK ITS PRETTY GOOD ALTHOUGH THE METAL AND CHROME IS A LITTLE THIN ON THEM. I PREFER THE LOOK OF THE CMSNL RACK. THE ORIGINAL ONE LOOKS A BIT BIG AND DOES NOT COMPLIMENT THE DAX WHEN FITTED TO IT

To be really fair to Honda, there are not many manufacturers who still make and supply parts for 20-30 year old bikes and I think that's fantastic, so thumbs up and full credit to Honda!!!! :D  :D
I guess that to a lot of people and HONDA themselves, these little minibikes/monkeybikes must be highly revered and covetted for a manufacturer to still give back up!!

LONG LIVE THESE LITTLE BIKES!! :D  :D  :D  :D  :D
