project dax renovation is under way and the bike is nearly stripped so i am starting to think about parts etc. what do you think about upgrades is there anything i should be doing while the bike is stripped ? already going to go for gel battery.any other ideas please ? also what are peoples thoughts on standard as againt subtle mods. i am not a fan of the origional german helmet mudgards i prefer the cleaner lines of the chrome european flat style mudgards like the guy has on the australian white lady dax. at this point i should say mines a 1200mile lady dax. what do you think ?

Well it's your bike so i would do it the way you like it.
Some people prefer to keep their bikes orginal with all the patina of 30+ years as it gives the bike a history and has a story to tell. Me, I prefer an orginal bike that looks like it has just come out of the show room. the downside to that is I never want to take it out unless the sun is shining :D . So now I need a second "rat dax" that I can mod and take anywhere.
I'm not a big fan of the German/duck bill mudguards either. The Belgium/French models have the high mounted guards hence the reason why I bought a French model. having said that I did have the French model as a kid so that might be an influencing factor.
Last time I checked you could still buy the high mounted mudguards from Honda. Just go to CMSNL and if the part is listed and available you can get it from your local Honda dealer.

thanks for the replies i think i will go for the chrome mudguard look but use the bracket on the front fork for a reflector so in the future it could be returned to origional if required
