Where do I start?!
Good Morning,

The bike needs so much doing to it it's hard to decide what order to do things!

I have decided the wheels and tyres are going to be the best starting point for me. Some people might say stripping it down to the frame and then building up from there would be a good idea but I am not going to tackle that just yet.

My plan is to get it road worthy to start with so I can get an MOT etc so the frame may have to wait. The rust on the frame is quite bad but it is a lot worse in other places (such as the wheels for example)!

The order in which I am going to start is:

1). Strip down the wheels, get them shotblasted and painted up.
2). Put new tubes and tyres on along with new bolts, nuts, screws etc (where possible) - The axle bolt is the only wheel related item that is out of stock it seems.
3). Strip down and paint the mudguards.
4). Get a new modern style number plate made up as the current one has seen better days (I won't throw it away though).
5). Service the engine (oil, plug, filter change).
6). Attempt to clean the carb (had problems with this before)
7). Assess the petrol tank and replace if necessary!
8). Give the bike a general clean up...

Not sure if this is right or not but my mechanical knowledge is quite limited so I am open to suggestions.

For me to restore the bike to 'as new condition' will take far too long and I don't have the tools, time and space to do it :(

Any ideas, advice?!

Thanks for reading!

Well, I'm a big fan of not re-doing it completely myself.
That is, keep the original paint for example.
Why? This bike is +30 years old, it's beautifull to see the bikes history.
However, you should keep the rust on your frame "under control".
This can be done with different kinds of products, such as 'rustbusters.nl' (fertan)

The wheel axles, bearings, brakes,... should however be in eprfect shape, for your own safety.

One hint: all the bolts etc can be bought at a hardware shop.
Buy good quality (inox for example) and you'll end up paying only a fraction of the Honda prices.

i believe in keeping things old looking too.

one question, i need to spray the mudguards silver and the rims and the wheel caps that hold the drum brakes.

now could anyone tell me how i can get that dull silver colour for the mudguards, with paint codes, info, web link or something?

and what the club suggests for doing the rims and wheel centres?

many thanks.
