ST70 SPARES FROM THE USA
Has anyone else noticed that if you want to buy new primary & lighting coils for your ST70 (or any other model which uses the same set-up) then the cost of parts is very high yet in the USA the same items can be had for a fraction of the cost? For instance, what are claimed to be genuine Honda primary & lighting coils, points & capacitor are available in a complete kit for about £22 including postage to the UK while over here you are paying over £30 for a single coil.
Has anyone bought one of these kits, was it what it claimed to be and would you recomend them?
I know a lot of people (me included) are running very old & damaged generator coils as the cost of replacements is just so high (have you checked out what even tatty ones go for on Ebay?).

Any feedback greatfully recieved.

It's really odd.
A platsic CT70 tank or an engine guard are very expensive here (over 100€ each) and dirt cheap in the USA.
A complete ignition starts from 5€ used.
New from Honda is expensive, but a lot of other brands and types can be used.

Well they arrived and I have to say I am very impressed.

The genuine parts kit includes both generator coils, a set of points, a pair of capacitors (two as the kit covers all 49+72cc models and the type of capacitor differs on some) and all fixing screws.
As for cost, a single generator coil will cost you as much over here, likewise so would a set of points and a condensor.
Delivery was fantastic, I have had to wait longer for items posted in the UK than these took to arrive from Florida!

All in all I am very impressed (have I already said that?) and if anyone else was interested in the same items I am thinking of bringing a few sets over so I can sell them on. There must be a market out there as secondhand generators go for silly money on Ebay and the same parts fit a wide range of Honda models (C50, C70, ST70, Chaly, SS50 etc).

I took my stator off yesterday and it fell apart in my hands, so it looks like I will have to source one of these kits myself. Thanks for all the info but where did you get it from? Www?

Thanks

Hi Horgand, have you had a look on the CMSNL website?

I just looked on Ebay for CT70 spares Worldwide. I believe Tufty bought a kit and was also impressed.
You can't use the charging/lighting coil as most other countries use a different system to the UK bikes and you will find you are missing a tapping but it is still fantastic value for a new (genuine) stator coil, points & condensor. In addition, you can then Ebay the unwanted charging coil as there are plenty of CT70's around and someone will take your new coil off your hands.
