SWINGING ARM BUSHES
Silly question time again (they keep coming)!

Going to replace the swinging arm bushes and I was wondeirng if there is anything between the two bushes (a spacer for instance) or whether they touch in the middle? My workshop manual (CD) doesn't show them and although I have the part number of the new bushes I can't find an exploded diagram on the CNMSL website showing the swinging arm & bushes as separate units. Needless to say, if I had already bought the new bushes I could just measure them and work it out but I haven't done that.
Removing the bushes should be easy enough as they are exactly the same as the suspension bushes on my Land Rover (although the Honda units are quite a bit smaller) and I have the knack of doing them without the need for a press. I cut through the rubber with a hole-cutter and with the inner sleeve removed I then use a hacksaw to cut through the outer sleeve which usually just pops out after applying a drop of penetrating oil.
If there is a spacer between the two bushes this will make it slightly more difficult to do it this method though not impossible and still very much DIY.

Hi Litch,
Yes there is a spacer between the bushes.Fortunately for your method of removal it is not full bush diameter but only inner sleeve size,so you should be able to push it out after removing inner sleeves and most of the rubber material.
You should then be able to hacksaw outer sleeve as you plan to relieve resistance fit in swinging arm. The tricky bit will be holding a steady enough sawing action(not rocking the saw) when close to breaking through,so you dont leave a tell-tale saw groove in your swing arm!
Good luck and let us know if all goes to plan?

Thanks for confirming that, I will take care not to damage the spacer when removing the bushes.

Shouldn't be a problem with the hacksaw, clamp the swinging arm firmly in the vice and keep an eye on the depth of the cut as I get close to getting through the outer sleeve. Done exactly the same operation on the LR several times and the ST is a nicer size to deal with.

Not done it yet but I fully intend taking some photos when I do.
I was going to do it last weekend but something else came up (as ever!) but I will definately get onto it soon.

Hi, what's the part number for the bushes? My ST 70 just failed its MOT for worn swing arm bushes and I can't find a replacement part number on CSMNL site. Hope you can help!

Hi
The 1974 parts manual does not show bushes either so i am assuming Honda expected them to last, look on OOracing .com under dax I think they are about £10.00
