12V crackshaft swap
Hi all,

Firstly, what a lovely day to get out on the bike, shame I'm stuck in an office :(

I have a question about converting a 6V engine to 12V. Is it possible to change the crankshaft to a 12V cracksaft and swap the flywheel or will a 12V crackshaft not fit?

Is this all that would be required?

Cheers

Rescue team on it's way!!!

yes, it's possible to swap the crankshaft to a 12v version.
But, there are easier ways to convert your engine to 12v:
- mount a convertion piece on the cranshaft tap to allow you to fit a 12v flywheel / ignition (only for S tap)

- mount a Jingcheng early type ignition (6v fitting, 12v cdi ignition) (only for L tap)

Re: 12V crackshaft swap
Thanks Waynus.

Only reason I ask is that I have two 6v engines, one of which ias running beautifully in my bike and one which I am rebuilding, and I am contemplating a few upgrades, possibly bigger bore or stroke. I have heard you mention that 88cc or 85cc is one of you favourite upgrades so I may just go down the route of a bore up kit.
Other than installing a high volume oil pump and oil cooler is there anything else to take into account when installing a bore up kit os is it just a straight swap of cylinder and piston?
Do you have to adjust valves etc..

Cheers

When you upgrade the oil pump, make sure you drill the hole in your crank case (between oil pump and cylinder)
This isn't necesary for a 200% pump, but it is for a >270%.

You don't need an oil cooler or breather.

Depending on the type of clutch, it might be necessary to upgrade the clutch or springs.

Extra possible upgrades are valve springs, cam shaft, and a pc18/pc20 carb kit.
