I Got a Problem

Okay, I removed the flywheel, replaced the points and put back on the flywheel. Now what?

The manual says the points should just be about to open as the "F" mark aligns with the mark and to adjust as neccessary by loosening the screw and using the little lip with your screwdriver. This is where I am losing it, I don't see the points moving at all  and have no idea how to adjust them to be more or less open. What did I do wrong?

The manual is not very step by step helpful.

Thanks in advance (pun intended).

Re: I Got a Problem
If they don't open at all, they are too far away from the flywheel centerand/or you didn't fix the little screw before turning the flywheel. .
Try this:
1) Turn the flywheel about 3mm before 'T'
2) Loosen up the screw that hold down the points. (Do not completel yturn out!)
3) Press the points all the way down (right side)
4) Fix the screw
You should now have achieved a good starting point.

What little screw? The one that holds the points in? I have that tight. I will try it again. But, does the flywheel have to be on and tightened too? Right side? You mean push the bottom of the points down like the fixed one down?

Re: I Got a Problem
Please stick with me on this one if you can... I have been oput there half the night. The points are not opening at all that I can see. I have the flywheel back on and somewhat tightened. I turn the flywheel the correct way (arrow) and as it goes all the way around the points stay closed whether or not they are adjusted all the way up or down or in the middle.

I have something wrong I know and it is probably simple but I just cant seem to get a gap at all of any kind.

Phenolic was broken off the fixed contact arm causing no contact with flywheel center. That was the trouble and they were brand new. I know I didnt break them. Put old ones back in. Spent several hours and sweat and still no start. Cant find the way to set them. Just wont start.

Re: I HAVE a reSolution
Just to close this issue I watched a video on Youtube of a guy setting the points on a Honda 72cc and got it in 5 nminutes after that. Now that I got it solved I feel confident again and not too discouraged as I was earlier today and I know I can continue on myself now and solve things no matter the issue.

Sorry I couldn't check this sooner, I would have been glad I could help you out.
I couldn't foresee the broken new part, so it's good you managed to solve it yourself.
