Dax lights

Sorry if this question has been asked a hundred times before...

Took my newly restored DAX out at night and the lights are just about OK when the engine's revving, but shut off for a corner and it drops to torch levels...

Is this normal for the lights to only work acceptably at higher revs?

I have a brand new pattern headlight (from CMSNL) and new battery, although I know the battery's got nothing to do with it.

Many thanks in advance.

What model?
You say "although I know the battery's got nothing to do with it" so we can assume a 6V system?

The 12V ST50 Dax has decent enough lighting but on the 6V ST50 & ST70 the front & rear lights are dynamo driven off the engine and are dependant on engine revs to work. As there is no clutch you can't rev the engine so will have to live with it i'm afraid.

Funnily enough I grew up with this set-up on my SS50 & ST70 in the early 1980's and was quite happy travelling many thousands of miles with it but nowadays you look at it and wonder how you managed.

Yes, it's a 1976 ST70 6 volt. I didn't think the battery was implicated as the lights don't work without the motor running.

It's really dark though when I shut off. Oh well, won't use it much at night anyway and it's somewhat reassuring to know that it's not just mine.

i find having the headlight on high setting at all times helps alot :) ,but adjust the height of the beam lower, not to blind oncomming traffic.
