I have just recently had a 150cc engine conversion done to my 1972 st.    One question.........why am I burning what seems to be the same amount of oil as petrol?  It seems that every time I go out for a ride, i'm always checking the oil because I'm so scared of siezing her up. There are no visible gasket leaks, but a small amount of black oil appears around the end can!!!!!!!!!!!

Any help would be much apprieciated.

Possible reasons include piston rings broken on assembly, pressure build up in crankcase, worn valve guides, but my money would be on piston/rings. Vmax

Thanks Vmaxx, but Its a brand new engine and was already pre-assembled apart from the ancilleries. Could I have broken the rings by overdoing it whilst riding her in?

It's normal that you're using some oil while running in.
It all depends on how you do it and on the built quality of the engine.
Just check your oil level very often the first 1000miles or so.
You sey you have an oil breather? Try mounting it higher and always use the biggest diameter of cap and hoses.
