Depending on built date and country, between:
front 13 - 15, back 35 - 42.
Most common is 15-38.

Think the 79 uses the cushion sprockets.

If you want to change you will prob have to buy the upgraded hub from ooracing which is bolt on sprockets.

You can still find the rear sprocket with rubber cussions, in about any size.

been looking on the parts diagram, don't think it's for a 72 st70 with 50 engine but it looks like i need a rear sprocket with cushions too. what do i have to find to tell me if it's bolt on, would there be something on the hub to look for?

on parts diagram I see four cushions for the sprocket tabs as part of rear assembly. on another I see a continuous piece as a cushion. can I use either types on a st70 143xxx? please advise.

HI
When I did my sprocket change on my 74 st70 there were 4 seperate inserts which are the cush drive and a plastic cover/disk which stops debris getting onto the cush drive inserts also there should be 4 bolt holes for the sprocket

tufty, does the rear sprocket on your chariot bolt on with the hub bolts, and is on top of the hub as it bolts onto the rim?

chain drive and sprocket gear seems to be slightly different with different part numbers on st50 and st70. I guess with 50 engine you use 50 parts and 70 engine 70 parts, regardless of it being a 50 or a 70 frame? or does it not matter?

are there different chain pitches for st50 engine and st70 engines?

not sure if there is any difference here.

according to the parts diagrams:

st50 final drive sprocket

is out of stock

but the st70 final drive sprocket is in stock

is the main thing that i need the rear sprocket with the tabs and cushions and the right hole spacing to bolt on with the hub?

Not sure.
All of the (aftermarket) chains I fitted, had to be shortened.
