Hi Lee, I have left mine 6V but changed it to electronic ignition and it works great, The lights are still dim but I did venture out in the dark and was quite suprised to see that they did light up the road surface better than I expected.

Lee,
I didn't take a look at the wiring loom on Monkeybike.co.uk, but I assume you'll need these extra parts:
- CDI
- 12v regulator
- 12v bulbs
- 12v battery
- 12v horn
- 12v coil is recommended
- (12v winker relay)
Make sure you got a NT C90 engine (12v) as the Old type C90 (6v) engines (also called 'fat harry engine') won't fit in a Dax frame.

Re: 6volt to 12volt
I posting this as it may help 6 volt owners.

I am currently restoring/refurbishing a 1978 Dax 6 volt and have installed a WPB Stomp 125cc engine and exhaust. The engine is 12 volt with a two coil stator plate (one for lights and one for ignition/cdi). My old loom is in good condition and I found a conversion here http://dratv.stores.yahoo.net/12vrerepikea.html.

I decided to keep the bike 6 volt and purchased the pigtail and 6v regulator, having installed it as per the diagrams on the website, all is working fine and in fact the lights are much brighter, no blown bulbs so far! The main benefit I found is that you don't need a 12 volt battery so more room under the seat for the cdi. Also, I wired in a new 6 pin plug to the engine ( see Ebay) so that I could easily swop back to the original engine if I wanted to. Ignition switch all works fine.

By the way, the Stomp engine fits well and I have used the standard Stomp exhaust with it, had to fit a db killer though to quieten it down! Currently 17/35 tooth sprockets but I am experimenting.

You'd probably want something like a 32 as a rear sprocket to get the best benefit torque-wise.
Or 16/31 if you want it to pull harder.
