ST50 engine misfire
When the bike gets to top speed, the engine starts to miss a little and misfires/backfires. Nothing major but I feel that that is wasting valuable HP - an d I need all that I an get!!

Any ideas??

Re: ST50 engine misfire
Are you sure it's an ignition problem?

It could be also a worn gasket on the intake manifold, or top gasket, worn piston rings/cilinder, wrong cam timing or valve clearances.
Re-set your ignition timing correctly (if you need help, just ask) and check the condition of the points. These should be perfectly flat and horizontal on eachother.
Replace them if they are not perfect. Also, check the condensor (if broken, you see the sparks jumping between the points)
Check all of this before you proceed.

Oh yes, I forgot the most simple thing:
check your spark plug.
Both condition and color.

As posted in a previous post, you can read bad timing / bad fuel mixture from the spark plugs condition.

Lee, thanks for your kind words. I feel the pressure now.

Waynus, can I take you up of your offer of help to set the timing correctly?
Many thanks
Ian
