Hey users, i have only just set up my account, and I'm restoring my first ST70. I want to upgrade my engine, but do not want to have to change my bike from 6V to 12v, because i will have to replace a lot of 6V parts. Is there any way i can convert the engine instead?

A big bore kit ,I think the c90 head fits but gearing issues?
12volt is a good idea you can buy the loom and cdi unit and drop a pit bike 140cc in the bike but its worth much less as you will see on ebay!to be fair my st70 does around 40mph and thats about safe with standerd brakes!

keep the value of the bike.

Re: Volt Conversion
You mean convert a 12v cdi to a 6v engine?
Only two options:
--> change the crank
--> buy a special type 6v rectifier (and keep the cdi etc.)
Both are much more work as the wire loom conversion.

EXECPTION: Jingcheng DX90 engine: possible to fit a regular 6v points ignition on the stock crank!

Kirk, a big bore won't change anything, it all depends on the crank type.
Also, the head has nothing to do with the gearbox.
