Hi all, new owner of 79 CF70 Chaly, and new to this forum.
Just going over the engine before a complete refurb of the whole bike as it has been dry stored for around 30 years and looks pretty sorry.
Adjusting the points is puzzling me. I understand the principle of setting the points with them starting to open at the 'f' mark and setting the gap at the 't' mark.
Having taken off the flywheel and fitting new points and condenser, I notice the heel of the points arm is resting on a cam which rotates easily with no reference to the timing marks.
So my question is, how do I know the rotational position of the cam before I re-fit the flywheel and what stops the cam rotating on it's own?
It occurs to me that the points cam might need to be located on the stub inside the flywheel before refitting it.
Your advice would be appreciated.
