Hi all, not posted in a while, as the Chaly was getting me to work and back every day without a hint of trouble.
This is however no longer the case. The clutch has decided to seize up and it’s now stuck in gear. Being the fully auto version, finding a clutch is obviously not gonna happen, and even if I could find one, I’m far too scared to strip down the old clutch and fit a new one.
With that in mind, I’m thinking an engine swap would be the only option. My first problem is checking with Carole Nash and seeing if they’d still insure the bike with a new engine as I only ride on a CBT. I called them earlier today and am currently waiting on a call back to see if they’ll allow it.
If they do, I’m thinking of getting this engine from Motorkit in Belgium ( https://www.motorkit.com/en/chinese-eng ... rting.html( as I can’t find a 70cc semi auto kick start engine anywhere in the U.K.
If Carole Nash won’t insure me after an engine swap, then the Chaly will have to be mothballed until I get a full licence or (heaven forbid) sell it
My question is, is the above engine compatible with my bike, and if it is. How complicated a job would it be?
Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks in advance
Martin
Edit: If I did do the engine swap, is the cylinder capacity marked anywhere on the Lifan engines? If I ‘accidentally’ bought and fitted a 90cc instead of a 70cc. Would anyone know after it was on the bike? Say, at MOT time, for instance...
