ST70 Swinging Arm
Just noticed a bad Vibration when I get to around 30 mph so got home and had a check round the Bike chain etc then found the swinging arm has play in it, Now don`t know if there is meant to be any play at all but I can move the rear wheel a good 1/2" or more is this Normal or are they shot....as if they are it means the Twit who restored it did not renew the Bushes :-(

so that`s why I am asking has anyone else got a lot of play in their swinging arm or are they worn out ?

Oh and the next question is are they hard to replace I,e... getting them out and new ones in ?

Thanks

Hi Mo, yes that doesn't sound very good, there shouldn't be any play that causes a vibration, I have two of these little bikes and mine hasn't got any play in, it does sound like the bushes need replacing, I haven't replaced the bushes my self so don't know how easy or difficult they are, I found a picture of a swinging arm in shire bikes if that's any help Screenshot_2018-06-30-11-38-41.png

Just started my testoration project and the bushes were my first job after the full strip. They’re a pig.
Granted, mine had been in there for 42 years but they really weren’t designed with replacement in mind. Had to destroy the old ones to get them out but save the central spacer as you can get them.
