Throttle Cable

I have just changed the throttle cable on my Dax - 1970. The bike is now over revving and will not idol. Uncertain as to where I went wrong. I am thinking the needle is not sitting low enough in the carb. Is it possible the length of the throttle cable is incorrect? I am certain the slide is correctly positioned.

Help welcomed.

Re: Throttle Cable
Hi Shaun,
I have exactly the same problem with my ST70. I have used a pattern cable and the genuine Honda and the problem persists. You are right, the slide lifts a fraction as the cables are a tadge to short. My carb is not an original Mikuni but a nice copy from Shire Bikes. This may be part of the problem? I have used a longer cable which fixes the problem, but makes the throttle travel horrible .
I have cut away a portion of the black cable sheath to see if this will allow a fraction more adjustment. I will let you know if this cures the problem.
Regards,
Pete.

Re: Throttle Cable
G'Day Pete for the feed back. I have ordered a longer throttle cable which should arrive in the coming the days. The forums seems to indicate this is not uncommon. Hopefully that will do the trick. If not I'll make some form of adjustment connection. It seemed such a simple task.

Keep in touch.

Cheers

Re: Throttle Cable
I know this reply may be a little late but i just had exactly the same problem, I removed the carb again & realised i had put the needle in the wrong way around, because when the cable was connected & i put it back in the carb the needle went lower than the top i thought it was right! WRONG!! when you insert the needle spin it through 180 degrees so the slot the cable goes through is on the choke side of the carb, now when you insert it, it drops all the way down. Hope this helps
