Wiring issues st70
Please help ! I am trying to fix my sons Honda. I have a new battery and ignition switch. I have the taillight working, and the red bulb is lit on the speedometer when the switch is in the "headlight" position. I think the light on the left of the speedometer is green, and tells me the bike is in neutral, but it won't light up. The horn works. I have a wiring schematic, but the colors don't match with whats on the bike. Can anyone please give me a direction to go in?

Hi,
Check the bulb first, obvious but often overlooked. Then check the connection from the neutral switch to the bulb housing visually or using a multi meter set at continuity. if this does not solve your problem, then suspect the neutral switch. This may be out of adjustment, or just plain faulty. Of course, before all else. Make sure the bike is not in gear! Hope this is of some help.

I checked the bulb, it's good. The next thing to check is the neutral switch. Can you please tell me what it looks like, and where its at? My thought is to short it out and maybe the light on the speedo will come on. I have the bike in many parts, will anything have to be grounded to make the neutral switch function? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
If the engine is still in the frame. You should see part of the wiring loom disappearing into the left crank case cover. Remove the cover and trace the light green red wire, which leads to the neutral switch. Remove the screw and retaining plate to gain access to the switch. You may find that the wire has been pinched. Download a wiring diagram from the net, which makes life easier. A replacement can be found in the UK from Dave Silver. Test the switch as you feel able.
Regards,
Pete.
