Wave 100cc on ST70
Kia Orana,

Firstly, I'd like to say that I am a long time reader, first time caller. Great site and very useful!
I am currently living in the Cook Islands (Rarotonga - a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean) and have brought my '72 ST70 over here (nothing better for traveling around the island!).....however, during the process of getting the old girl up and running I have discovered that the bolt holes on the head to the carby have been stripped, and the clutch is very temperamental to say the least (guessing towards the end of its life).
One of the benefits of living in the Cooks is that it is a scooter mecca, and have managed to pick myself up a 2nd hand 2011 Honda Wave 100cc for NZ$400.....
(can you see where this is going??????)
Rather than phaffing about with fixing the carb and helicoiling the striped boltholes on the original engine, my current thinking is that I'll hopefully be able to replace the engine (amongst everything else) with the Wave engine.
So, what I am asking is would anyone have any advice on doing this? Any tips, tricks, problems, issues with doing this would be appreciated.
Ideally, (and this shows how ignorant/green to motorbike mechanics etc I am):
- the bike will become 12V - Can I use the wiring harness from the Wave? What else will I have to replace from the original 6v electrics? - battery placement?
- any issues with mounting the engine/carby setup?
- using the Waves handgrips and throttle setup?
I have done some extensive interweb searching on the topic, but can only find a couple of generic references to the said conversion process. Help please! Cheers, Matt

Yes, you can use the Waves wiring harness, or you can adapt the original one (with a 6v to 12v harness kit)
Remember to change the regulator, battery and all light bulbs.
I recommend to change the high tension coil as well.

Engine should fit right in, depending on the exact type and version. (97cc?)
You might need to get a new manifold if there's not enough space between the carb and frame.

No idea on the diameter of the Waves handlebars.
You could use the ST70 grips as well.

Good luck!!!

Kia Orana (again),

Just a quick update on the engine transplant for my st70.
Engine has been mounted (in part)....the frame needs a wee tweak wider to fit the engine in to line up with the mount holes.
Carby might still be a problem, we are attempting to utilise the intake manifold (and carby) from the Wave....however it might be a no go due to lack of space/position and will crash into the frame.
Still need to sort out the electrics and harness etc - will show the "local mechanic" the previous posts from Waynus, so it'll give him some insights.
Most likely will also have to grab some extra bits'n'pieces of ebay (or classic honda 50s, cmnsl etc) including switch gear for blinkers, blinkers, chain guard, new fuel cap.

Kinda glad that its slowly coming together (island time you know!).
Once up and running and licensed, this will be the best bike on the Island!

Cheers
and beers

Matt

Doing great!
You could look for a 360° intake manifold adaptor plate.

Kia Orana,

So it turns out my Island "mechanic" is a lazy sod, and things haven't progressed much more than last time I posted (ie wave motor still not fitted properly, frame hasn't been tweaked to accommodate the additional `5mm of the Wave engine girth to the mounting holes, etc etc).
I am very soon to leave the Island, and am taking the old Dax girl with me, but will leave the Wave bike behind.
I am just wondering what parts I should pilfer from the wave to ensure that I can carry on my devious wave/dax build back in NZ!?
I am planning to take the engines, carbs, foot pegs frame thing....
I'm guessing for completeness I should take the wiring harness.....but am unsure as to how much of the wiring should I take? I mean should I disconnect the main harness from the wave frame, ensuring that I get the rectifier and bibs and bobs, but leave the wiring inside the steering/handle bars? There are connectors at the base of the steering/handles....so would i be best to disconnect at that point and just keep the main wiring harness and other goodies?
Also what would be the go with the throttle set up? should I take the throttle (grips, cable and all) off the wave, or can I get by by taking the top set cap (plus bits) off the carby (the bit that connects the cable to the carby - you can tell i am Nooby) off the wave and then reconnect onto the existing throttle cable on the dax? Is that possible?

I am still in need of an offset adapter and air filter for the carby, but have decided that it can wait until I am set back up in NZ, as it is a hell of alot easier to order parts from there.

Please help! (Waynus!?)
Time unfortunately now is off the essence to strip what I can and need of the wave before all our stuff gets packaged up ad loaded into a container ready for shipping.

Cheers and beers!
