my 50 - 70cc conversion
Thanks everyone for your help so far (shorrocks, waynus and others).

so i have my nice st50 12v (87). All i want is the speed of a 70cc and I want to convert using all honda parts.

So I have a brand new (old stock) honda barrel and am just about to get a piston. But I have been told by shire bikes that i will also need a new head. all cool and I have found a dealer who can sell me a new one. (Unless anyone has one they can sell me)Apparently the 12v 70 was never bought into England is that true? Just france/spain and other areas of europe.?

I am also going to get a new exhaust and need to know if I need a nw carb and anything else. Any help would be well received and if anyone knows of a brillaint garage in essex who may be able to do the work please let me know. Anything else I'm missing.

Are the 50 and 70 the same stroke etc??

Also does anyone no the id of an 87 70 I have heard of bikes called k1 etc and want to know how to id parts properly.

Thans so much and sorry for all the questions. Bike will also be going in for a lovely paint job soon!

Hello Matt,

Now i've got a bit of time on my hands (no bike still) I would love to give you a hand. If you get the engine sorted, I'm sure you could do all the other work yourself. :D :D

All the best Si

49cc and 72cc both use the 41,4mm stroke.
You could have bought a 72cc piston for 50cc 12v head.
Now you already bought the piston you've got two options:
- get a 12v 72cc head
- get a 6V 50cc head
Both will offer very similar performance.
Besides Honda, there are plenty of high quality manufacturers for these type of cylinder heads.

All tbe best!
PS: trust Simon, he knows what he's doing! :D
