clutch basket torque setting please
Hi does anyone no the torque setting for the big nut that holds the clutch basket on the one with the locking tab washer , mine was only hand tight surely this cannot be right. I am changing the clutch as I am struggling to engage first gear on my 1972 st70 ,clutch is well worn . are there any other reasons why first would be so hard to engage ? Thanks

Hand tight is definately not correct. Don't know the correct torque for the nut, I tend to do that one by feel.
The washer -when in good shape and well folded- will keep the nut perfectly in place.

Check your gear forks as well as the selector mechanism / drum.
Is it a semi auto clutch? If so, make sure the clutch is in good shape, set it up correctly and test again...
Before you start tearing down the complete engine.
