I recently bought a 00Racing disc brake kit to replace the original front drum brake set up on my ST70, now fitted with a 125 engine also from 00r.All fitted perfectly except the original ST front fender that I wanted to retain, as it had already been sprayed to match the rest of the bike.As it was being recreated from pile of bits I'd decided to abandon any ideas of rebuilding it to original specs so its now an ST125 or will be when its finished-if ever!
The original ST fender stays bolt on to the lugs at the bottom of the fork legs but the new 00Racing forks have 2x 6mm threaded legs at the top of the stanchions and so the original fender stays can't be used without serious modification.
The fender brackets are cut from 1/8th aluminium sheet and radiused to(almost!) follow the curvature of the fender.I removed the offside fork complete which enabled the lugs on the nearside leg to be exposed for test fitting so the holes in the new bracket could be aligned with the rivets on the fender.I then centre punched the fender rivets and drilled them out to 4mm, and cut off the stays just below the remaining part of the bracket. The new aluminium bracket fitted almost perfectly so on went the fender -job done! Apart from polishing the new bracket and it needs slightly re-radiusing to match the fender curvature. The fender doesn't clout the 125 cylinder head but may not be the same situation with larger engines.
Hope this may be of interest to anyone planning to build a special.
