ST70 BRAKE LININGS
Hi guys
Before I spend another months housekeeping on new linings can anyone tell me what the exact thickness of the ST70 brake linings should be when brand new? Mine existing ones looked serviceable when I fitted them with what looked like plenty of lining left but may be less than needed to adjust them properly, even after re-positioning the brake drop arm on the spindle to give more leverage.

Amazingly enough this bit of technical info isn't shown anywhere in the original Honda ST service manual I've got although if it's there I can't bloomingwell find it!
Any info welcomed

High Brian,
Not to sure myself either, but it looks about 6mm. They cost less than £10 a set, so if in doubt by a new lot, just to be safe. ;)

HI
Having just looked in the Clymer bible it states that if it is a 50cc machine it should have more than 1.5mm thickness and a 70cc machine should have more than2.5mm from the metal shoe I would suggest this is a bit low and would add at least another 1mm to each.
Hope this helps

Hello Tufty,
I would suggest that 1.5 / 2.5mm thickness would be the absolute minimum needed for both models. This would reflect the relative horsepower and speed of both size engines. ;) ;)

HI BRIAN
As you are running a non Honda engine I would agree with Shorrocks and look for an absolute minimum of 3mm to allow for wear or alternatively buy new shoes.
