REGULATOR LOCATION
Hello fellow ST'eers
I need a bit of advice about where to fit the new regulator onto the ST frame that comes with the new 125 engine from OORacing.

Ideally this needs to be fixed before the engine is bolted in and it seems the only place it will fit easily inside the frame without getting in the way of anything else is onto the horiziontal bracket underneath the petrol tank. That's the one normally used to mount the original 6v ST coil as it has two fixing holes in it already.

I know the regulator/rectifier must have very good clean contact to ensure its securely earthed the frame, so I've made sure the bracket is back to bare metal and have made up a steel adaptor plate (also back to bare metal) and bolted the regulator on to this. Also cleaned off the paint on the underside of the regulator and made up a couple of lengths of extra wires with earth tags to fit between the regulator and under a bolt head somewhere convenient on the frame.

Question is; Does anyone know of a good conductive grease that I can smear onto all the earth contact points (especially the steel adaptor plate) that would also provide some protection against corrosion, especially as it's just behind the engine and vulnerable to all the muck the road can throw at it.
I know that the normal reddish-coloured grease used on car battery terminals or Vaseline could possibly be used but unless I'm totally wrong these greases would only seem to offer protection against corrosion rather than have conductive qualities.

If anyone else has any alternative solutions where and how to mount the rectifier I'd be pleased to hear from them.
Hope to have pics this weekend of partially completed bike.

Copper grease. According to their website it gives ' excellent electrical conductivity'.

I use a product called 'connector protector' which is a conductive, protective and lubricating grease designed to preserve electrical contacts in harsh environments from corrosion.

Hi Brian,

Not sure if yours will fit, but Ive mounted my regulator to inside bolts of the helmet holder.
I used cooper grease, seems to be OK for me.
Also I have run an earth from the battery to it just in case.

Looking for ward to seeing the pictures,

Hi folks
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I've used a tube of some Maplins conductive silicon grease to smear all over the metal plate and on bolts and contact surfaces between the regulator and the frame plus every exposed area where corrosion is likely to cause a bad contact so hope it works. This stuff is like a thick gel and is waterproof and conductive.

Hopefully should come back from OORacing tomorrow with an new 125 engine that starts. The Madass description would seem to fit what I get up to!
Cheers
Brian
