changing leaking fork seals on a 1992 st50K (4500 miles)
i have a bit of oil passing the fork seals. the chrome is quite pitted and also scratched near the clamp area. does any body know how to strip the forks down and assemble, put new oil etc??? and a decent re chroming company in the uk? and an idea of how much to it will cost provided its just seals, re chrome, and oil? i need to keep the costs down, and plan on disassembling/assembling myself. anything i should be looking out for?(can the things be dangerous to work on with that spring energy in there?). Any feed back will be greatly appreciated, Thanks :)

Re-Chroming will be prohibitively expensive I would think, a minimum charge will probably apply.
Not stripped your particular forks but usually you would remove the top nut and withdraw the spring (not much preload present generally). To separate the tube from the lower slider a socket cap screw(allen key) is usually removed from the very bottom and then you can carefully lever out the seals to replace.
Hope this is usefull but of course best if you find a repair manual

HI
If the forks are pitted or damaged in any way near to the seals working area, just replacing the seals would only be temporary.
I used a company "up norf" called RS Electroplating in Manchester to do my early fork stantions and I thought they were very reasonable compared with prices "down souf" you just need to send them a picture and they will give you a quote.
No harm in finding out.
