Gear selection issue - ST50

Hi,
I've just started my ST50 after 4 years in the bedroom, no probs there.
It is a 4 speed manual clutch but appears to be able to select all four gears either up or down?
Never noticed that before and strikes me as a little odd?
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

Sure you don't have a contionious gearbox?
It goes N-1-2-3-4-N-1-2... and so on, in either direction.

I hope you opened the bedroom window when you started it?
