Yeah, I've had to do loads to get it to this standard and the costs do add up but I wanted it to be a fairly high standard so every nut and bolt was either replated or replaced. There are still a few things to do but I'm getting there slowly.

That's virtually identical to one I had in South America in the mid 70's. Same colour, same logos and even the screw cap indicators that kept being nicked every 5 minutes. Only difference would be the tyres which were knobblies on mine.Looks a stunning finish, very clean and good paint.

Is much of it original, ie guards, exhaust etc or is there a load of replacements? Mine looks shabby by comparison so I need to spruce her up a bit.....love to go for the high chrome guards but mine has the lugs for the lower guards on the fork legs so would look a little odd unless I could get them cut off and re-chromed maybe.

Resprayed and replated everything I could and rechromed where possible but a few things like the mudguards which were to far gone were replaced along with the loom.
I grew up in South Africa and had a French KO similar to this one so was keen to get another which had the high guards but they are hard to find in the UK.
Love to get hold of another french KO model but you never see those for sale.

I was going to ask why you went for a French model instead of a UK spec one but I understand now.

Just noticed the links to the pictures were not working so updated them now - not sure why they stopped working.

Hi White. Ja steeds na 'n paar stukkies, my afrikaans is nie so goed nie nou na die lewe in die uk al die jare. After 2 years searching I did finally get hold of that pesky horn but it did not come with the bracket so I dread to think how long it's going to take to find that. The French don't seem to advertise much on the net so if you hear of anything please let me know.

Oh I forgot to ask what part of SA you were originally from - I'll take a guess and say a vaalie :D :D

here's my old man going out on the DAX. Shame, he did struggle a bit as he is use to riding his Triumphs which have the gear lever on the other side plus he kept trying to pull away in 2nd and then going up into 1st instead of down to 3rd.
He is 76 so It took him a few attempts but he got there in the end. I did take a video but I kept having to explain the gears over and over again so gave up in the end.
We had a good laugh and he enjoyed it.

Just noticed a drop of oil under the bike so it looks like my pattern gear shaft seal is leaking. fingers crossed the genuine one fixes it otherwise I'll have to replace the gear shaft  .
