76 ST70 restoration
Picked my 76 ST 70 up back in October last year. had been dismantled in the corner of a barn down in devon since the early 80's apparently, motor was seized solid, parts were either very crusty or missing, no tank, seat, stand etc below shows what i got

I looked at the motor and decided for now to park it as im in the middle of building a couple of other bikes and wanted to get this one done and on the road, so its been put in a box and retired to the shed for now and a new 110 lifan is in its place. I may end up rebuilding it at some point but for now the lifan works perfectly....

Frame was blasted and powder coated in a Orange pearl, was tempted to go stock but as i decided almost instantly not to do a nut and bolt restoration went with something i liked instead! Forks rebuilt, new legs sourced from the US as the ones i had were very crusty. new rims, fuel tank, seat, stand, front and rear Honda guards, bars, brake levers and pedals etc etc etc the list was endless!

its now done and ripping around the streets, great fun to ride and even with me on it (6ft1 and 16stone!) it rips along at 45+ and is getting better and faster as the motor beds in

Hi Neil,
You say in your write up that you fitted a Lifan engine.
Was it 6 or 12 volt?
At the moment, I am fitting a 124 cc CDI 4 speed Lifan engine to a Dax, for the same reason as you,-- the original engine was clapped.
The Lifan engine I have is a 12 volt one, and the bike is a 6 volt.
I am not having a lot of luck seeking information on what is involved on the conversion i.e. is it better to convert the bike to 12 volt or seek out a converter?
Would you mind telling me how you got around the problem, or was your LIfan engine 6 volt anyway?
Most of these conversions appear on American websites. I would prefer to use a UK based supplier if possible.
Has anyone else experience of fitting a 12 volt to 6 volt conversion? Would love to hear from you.

Thanks in hopes,

Ken
