Re: Tufty's 1969 ST50
HI Guys
this is my latest project, I got it on Ebay about a month ago from a guy who had put it together over the last couple of years. It was a runner but just needed tidying up, but as I have been quiet at work I decided to strip it down and build it to my own standard, replaced most of the bolts with stainless steel allen bolts and washers fitted taper roller bearings to the front forks to make adjustment easier and reduce play, change the engine oil and plug. Generally clean and polish the whole bike, fit the 1 into 2 exhaust system brought from Ebay earlier in the year (this sounds angry yeah) this also involved fitting a different kick start pedal to miss the manifold, at present it has a jingcheng 90cc motor but this will be changed in the New Year, I also fitted a crankcase breather (just cos they look funky) I have fitted some Honda seat blocks which were missing and now the seat sits nice and square.
My intention is to fit twin head lights like the street fighter style also I will be changing the rear lamp to something more funky LED style, when I get the chance to travel to my friendly minibike store I am going to get a set of oversize alloy wheels and tyres just to start giving it the low rider look.
If anyone has a set of frame badges (HONDA) they no longer require I would be interested as this is a 1969 frame and I have just applied for the correct year registration this will also give it classic road tax dispensation (free).
The other issue I have come up against is shorter rear shocks with larger springs and gas bottles as these catch on the chain and the only resolution appears to be offset studs Unless you know different.
My kids think there dad has gone off with the loonies with this one (wait till I pick my daughter up from school) but I really only want to ride my Lady in the dry so this will become my regular runabout.
P.S your comments would be very gratefully received.
Regards Clive

Quite a bit replica parts on the bike, but it's cool it has a '69 frame, and it will do the job of daily runner perfectly.
Well done!

........... All I can say is, "What a smart runaround!!"  I think that's way too cool to be used as a bike to go out in any weather!!! :? I get your point about the Lady Dax though, I would not entertain that going out in the rain or any bad weather. Too bad its got to be that nice 69 ST Framed bike !! Very cool though, nice one!!

Cheers. :D

Hi Gents
Thanks for the great comments
The problem I had was hanging the 69 frame in the garage until I had the money and parts to rebuild it as original or do what I did,but I have left the frame alone ie left the original exhaust lug in place which is normally cut off also the frame is well painted so should stay ok for the forseable future. I need to get it MOT'd and then I will start using it which I think is the right thing to do.
Regards Clive
