NEW MEMBER - PHOTO'S OF MY ST70 DAX
Hi Everyone

I'm not really very good at navigating forums so if I drop a clanger by putting this in the wrong section or something - I apologise in advance! :)

I've owned my DAX since 1983 and always said I'd never sell it - 26 years on and its still with me!! It was originally Candy Red with yellow graphics but after moving house a couple of times and it being left in a shed for a number of years, it was looking a bit down in the dumps. Out of the blue, whilst looking for something in the garden shed, I just looked at it quietly languishing there and thought to myself, what the hell am I doing letting that lovely little classic bike just go to nothing???

Over the course of a year, with a lot of help, I stripped and rebuilt it all and this is how it looks today. It used to have the grey helmet type mudguards but I got new chrome ones and also had lots of parts rechromed etc; the paint colour was changed and it now has all 12v electrics. It never had indicators so I sourced all the parts (orig Honda) I needed to facilitate the fitting of them. I also kept the original 6v handlebars as the later 12v versions dont look as retro as the originals (slightly diferent size/shape/profile). All the old parts from my bike have been kept and are going on another ST70 (a total rusty heap of bits that were dumped into a crate 25 years ago by the person who sold it after giving up on it) that I'm putting together for my wife!!

Anyway, glad I've found another forum for these lovely little bikes - you guys on here may want to check out the forum in Australia (http://www.monkeygarage.com.au/forums/) as its a great site and the people on there are really top notch and very helpful. I live in England, yet I joined the Aussie site and they've been sound so check it out - there's some great restorations on there!!

CANT WORKOUT HOW TO GET THE 4 PICS BELOW IN THE CORRECT ORDER FOR VIEWING - OH WELL, I'M NEW TO IT!!

Cheers to you all on here and look forward to seeing pics etc of your bikes.

Hi there and welcome!
Looks like you did a very good job!
Very lovely cute bike.

I guess you have fitted a Jingcheng 12v ignition on the engine?

Hi
Thanks for your post. My engine is Honda with the 12v ignition system. Runs very well but I think it could do with a few mods to give it a little extra torque higher up the rev range - perhaps a rebore, piston & rings, big valve head and a better valve springs. Its not essential but engine seems a little flat going uphill.

Cheers. :D

A rotor ignition system could help, or make your flywheel lighter. (and set the timing earlier)
Also, make sure you do have an unlimited CDI.
Faster cam, bigger, carb, other gear ratio... the options are nearly endless!

NICE ONE dAX-IT,
Good story on the bike!
An easy mod as waynus mentioned, is to go for a good CDI settup.
Try this guy, on email: *****
His name is KH, I have a stock motor with one of his stock CDI kits, and a modded CDI on an 88cc motor, they work great, and the bonus is that it takes about an hour to do the conversion.

Re: NEW MEMBER - PHOTO'S OF MY ST70 DAX
Hi Everyone
Thanks for all the info and ideas. I'll look into some of the suggestions - hopefully, if I implement them I should get a bit extra torque!! I've got to do the other DAX first though. Parts from it have been taken to local polishing shops to be brought back to a lovely shine, so I gotta pay for that first!!! :D Its all money  but worth it

If you've got any other ideas for a bit of extra torque for the green DAX - let me know

Anyways, here's how the other DAX (not the green one) arrived when I first got hold of it

I'll try and post some kore pics as the resto gets further on.

Cheers guys!! :)
