DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST
I was following a few items on Ebay the other week as I never cease to be amazed at what items end up going for, clearly people do not do any research beforehand and just assume that as it is on Ebay it must be a bargain.
My other hobby is Land Rovers and in the past I have made similar observations on items for that marque as well.

In particular I was watching the headlamp case, chainguard, lock set and one other item that escapes me at the moment. The reserve prices were about the same as the list price from David Silver yet at least two of these items ended up going for almost twice that with most of the most frantic bidding taking place in the last 2-minutes (as usual).
In the end I bid only on 1-item (the 3-piece matched lock-set which is no-longer supplied as a single unit from Honda) and was happy to get this for £1 more than the reserve price which is almost half what the items would cost if bought separately (in which case they wouldn't be a matched set either!).

Check the listing in plenty of time and do your homework, you might be surprised just how reasonable some part are even when they come direct from Honda.

heheh, I have also noticed this happen with "G" scale toy trains. Track in any length can be purchased new for 3 bucks a foot. I had seen it got on ebay for as much or more than double. People just get crazy sometimes I think.

Waynus, you got Rovers? My best bud has a bunch here in the states. He used to make annnual trips to England for stock and cars. . . He has a series 2-88 that has a Perkins diesel I want so bad . . . But I guess I just stick with VWs and STs.

No, I don't own any.
Well, I had a Mini Rover Checkmate ;)
Some friends of mine have Rovers, daily drivers as well as mud cross beasts.

AS I HAVE SAID MANY TIMES - I JUST THINK THAT A LOT OF THE TIME ON EBAY, ITS PEOPLES FRIENDS DELIBERATELY RIDING UP THE PRICES FOR THEM BY BIDDING ON THERE ITEMS SO THEY GET REDICULOUS AMOUNTS FROM OTHER NAIVE PEOPLE WHO KEEP BIDDING AND, LIKE YOU SAY, HAVEN'T DONE THERE HOMEWORK AND END UP BEING RIPPED OFF!! TO BE HONEST, ITS VERY ANNOYING!!!

Have been watching the ST70 items currently on Ebay and the same thing is happening that always does, i.e. people paying more than the list price.

The handle-bars went for a couple of £ less than they are from the likes of David Silver but I worked it out that the cost of P&P would have made them more expensive.
The airbox was actually slightly cheaper than from DS and didn't sell, once again however it was the P&P that did it for me.
The lock set is worth it if you want a matching set, at anything up to around £50 it is worth going for.
The headlamp cowl is just about to go over the cost of a new one with well over a day still to go. I did look at this as it is in the colour I wanted but ordered my new one from DS instead.
Horn button still available with no bids but I bet it makes over £20 at the very last minute.

Spent waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too much money ordering bits from DS again last night but am looking forward to unpacking them all when they arrive. :D
When the bike is rebuilt I will be having a mega sale on Ebay of all the original bits I no-longer require. It currently stands that the only original bits left will be the (rebuilt) engine, frame, forks, wheels, footpegs, number-plate bracket, ignition coil & speedo!
My intention is to run it around in its current state just to run the engine in then I will strip it down next winter for the rebuild. Whey buy so many parts now? Well, as more and more items become unavailable I thought it best to lay in a stock now in case they can't be obtained next year. I will be storing them 50-miles away at my Mum & Dads so I am not tempted to fit them ahead of schedule so when it does all get put together, the effect will be worth the wait.
