Newb bites more than he can swallow and starts chewing..
Hi guys, so I've bought an old Australian version St70. (Yep an Aussie) The one that completely pulls apart at the forks. Im a silly noob that discovered these cool little things and wanted one. As soon as i acquired it i started the search for info online (maybe i should have looked into it earlier:/ :) but glad i found this forum!!
I don't think these are very common around here and i think ive made it harder by picking up the one that has the complete pull apart trees and stanchions. I think the is van is St70-136667 but im not completely sure because it is a bit rusted there. Is some one able to help me pin it down to a year?

The main issue I want to deal w first is the snapped throttle cable and because it's the "pull apart" bike it has a crazy clip system for the throttle cable (also more common looking pull apart plugs for the electrics)
I've looked on csmnl and the part isn't available anymore.
What should I do?
Get someone to braze a new lug on the end and refit to the the crazy little alligator clip?
Chuck it away and fit a regular cable? I suppose this begs the question do I restore it as close as possible or just do my own custom thing...is this a rare machine?
I'm actually just looking to do my own thing. (Unless someone convinces me otherwise) Ive seen a cool one out there that is digger style and was looking to possibly emulate it. I know not everyone's style but hey that's customisng for ya!
Actually I'd like to ask another question and ask how (if) I can lengthen the stanchions to fit a larger spoke wheel?!
I'm sure I have many other questions coming and would really appreciate any advice from either seasoned guys or just newbs like myself. I hope to make this a rewarding and fun experience in the long run. So cheers!
Here's some pix

And it fires up nice after a bit of coaxing...one guy kicking and the other playing w the broken throttle cable. Though the carby leaks.. I'm wondering if there is any way of telling w carby I have (for parts)

What a wonderfull rare bike!
It's a 69'er, exhaust is wrong (should be a low type) and special parts (like the throttle cable) aren't availble anymore.
I think the seat is wrong as well, but I'm not sure.
Carb is the standard original 16mm version.

I suggest you sell me this baby and get a regular st70 to do your customising on.

Thanks Tufty! I think the frame number is ST70-136667 does this sound right?

Hello Waynus, thanks for your help. A 69er eh!... I was dreading hearing the word rare! Lol!
I also own a CB750/4 K4 with only 3500 original miles. It just sought of fell on my lap last year as I started looking for one(I had to grab it) I was looking to buy something I could customise (being the philistine that I am). But it is in too original and neat, unrestored condition and I can't bring myself to mess with it! I am actually going to sell it forward hopefully someone who can bring it back to it's original glory.
Being a newb and a hack I need some crud to work on :D ....if you wernt in Belgium I would glady sell it to you!!.. but I think shipping might be a deal breaker ;)
...any Aussie takers?

Actually picked up a similar absolute basket case a few months ago it's been sitting in a friends shed. Same colour but I don't think it has the pull apart forks but I can't even remember so I will def go and get it now and start thinking about playing with that one instead. Being a rare find over here, I thought maybe I could use the two to make one runner without knowing much about model differences. Well let the adventure begin!

I
Have got a 69er as well but not the pull apart front end mine is in bits at the moment but is this winters project it has got the low exhaust its frame number is 13882* so is not to far from yours is was thinking about getting the repro removable front end but it would detract from the original uk spec best of luck
p.s I seem to remember there is a post on the site about the throttle clip

Hi Tufty! I just checked me other bike and it's the same as this one w the pull apart front end but the bike is missing a lot of parts, which to me is probably a good thing coz I can find the parts as needed and not worry about keeping it all original. So if you or anyone else needs a pull apart front end just drop me a line.

If anyone wants this bike let me know. If I can't find a taker I might try n restore it somewhere down the line.
I think I'll just get a normal accelerator cable so I can do a few more engine and carby checks.
