...to this forum, i'm having a run on joining forums at the moment trying to get ideas/advice etc. I recognise quite a few of the names already & you might recognise mine :D

Currently I have a <whisper> chinese Dax copy, but have just added a Chaly project to the fold so don't feel so bad about lurking and posting on here :)

I'm not sure which route the Chaly is going to go yet but it'll probably wander away from standard - they can be pretty dull and ugly. Completely OTT is not on the cards, subtle but smart is.

I hope you don't mind me poluting your forum :D

Hi Jay,
Welcome, think I've seen you on another forum that I frequent, that seems to have a few issues. :D
I was enjoying the banter on it but it got a bit twisted, some idiot crying to the police about something and it seems from my opionion he had a gripe he could not resolve so he decided to send a letter to the plod, listing all the uk runs and implied all the bikes were illegal! How to win friends, not.

This forum is about the bikes, bit more input from regular users needed but a very friendly bunch who have loads of informative advice, not chinky bling here!

Hi Blue, yeah you would have seen me elsewhere and its probably best that we let the other place deal with their issues - we don't want to mire this one with it either! The UK monkey scene is small enough already without these divisions.

It looks like a good forum from what I've seen so far.

I've still not got a handle on Chinky bling & where the line is on what's acceptable, but having been a owner/member of Ford RS forums you can get big differences in what people think is right and wrong - I was a mechanical design engineer by trade/training so everything I look at is an opportunity for a redesign/improvement! - it drives the Mrs mad :D

Personally I don't have a problem with modding & tuning if its kept withing the spirit of the bike especially if it improves handling/braking/safety although I could never take a mint standard bike and splatter it with low grade chinese parts.

It'll be interesting how my interpretation is received :D

This is a mates Chaly finished this year, we think along the same lines so it gives an idea of where I'm going with mine.

It arrived as no more than a frame and swingarm & although Chinese parts have figured in the build its still turned out really well - and its another Chaly saved :)

Hello Jay-Dax, and welcome.

I've also seen you on the "otherside" hope this forum is not affected :( good to have you on board. Where in the country do you live, as we are trying to locate geographically were people are. This will help in any future meets. Please update your profile with you location :D :D :D

Many thanks Si

Hey Si, i'd like to think any kind of petty behaviour will not make it this far and if it does the mods stamp it out.

Yep, will update my location in a mo' - currently i'm just north of Basingstoke, Hampshire so the likes of the Ace cafe etc are within my reach but I'd be poluting your runs with non Honda :D but the more the merrier I guess!

Jay_dax,

Like the Chally, It's the low cross member that makes these bikes.
Maybe I'll get one next, once I've finished my other bikes.
Challys lend them self to customising, what you do to it is up to you, it's your bike enjoy it!

As for Chinky bikes, bits, they are what they are, I've seen a few lovely looking bikes, what lets them down is reliability.
If you put the right bits on them you can have a great fun bike.
There is no right or wrong, it's your choice in my opinion.

Don't think this forum has to many Honda snobs, personally I would always go Honda with the engine, but that's my choice.

Post a few pictures of your Dax, I'd be interested to see it.
Cheers,

Glad there's not too much snobbery about :) and I know what you mean about reliability, I suspect i'll fall victim to a chinese breakdown at some point - I've got my money on gearbox or electrical (stator/CDI...) Initially the Chaly will get the old 110 from the Dax but longer term I'd want to go bored out Honda.

Here's the Dax, started life as a Lifan 110, I'm still working on the decals as I want the "Honda" removed....

Its all fairly subtle as some I've seen are too much.

Welcome to the forum!

Just a small note:
A semi 3-gear 12v Honda engine is very cheap these days, and far more reliable as those monster engines.
Tune-up parts are always expensive, wether it's for a Honda, Chinese or scooter engine.

Hi Waynus, thanks for the info - I'm keeping an eye open for a good Honda engine, with the Dax I'm expecting problems at some point, just not sure when! I'm fairly new to these types of bikes and like many people I've gone to one extreme with this one but the next (the Chaly) will be somewhat more middle of the road :D

The Dax is fun but a handful, I never quite know if its going to start 2nd kick, sometimes it can be half an hour and a dose of carb cleaner before it runs which makes it unusable for nipping out on but it's been an interesting project.

I've come from the world of modding big Jap sports bikes and building competition cars so these seem quite cheap!

Is there a particular Honda engine everyone chases?

Yep, most popular Honda engine has the GB4 cases (or GB6)
Most popular: Honda AB22,... 4-gears, 2-disc manual clutch, 12v CDI ignition.
